Thread: Metroid Prime

  1. Consider me excited. I expected to hate it, but the demo was a pleasant surprise. My third reason for wanting a 'Cube.

If only you knew how much replay value ZOoT has given me.
I just finished the game today, and I can already tell that everything I have yet to do will take even more time away from me than the game itself.

  2. Metroid Prime gets 9.8 from IGN

    IGN Review

    Presentation
Metroid reborn in 3D, and an impressive sci-fi fantasy to boot. Awesome menus. Design is great from concept to execution. Few games are this polished.
    10.0

    Graphics
A stunning art vision that deserves major recognition, jaw-dropping world architecture, and volumes of pretty textures. At 60 fps with progressive scan support, there are few that compare.
    9.0

    Sound
The original Nintendo composer delivers another opus and fantastically designed sound effects compliment the mood with Dolby Pro Logic II support.
    10.0

    Gameplay
A true masterpiece; an accomplishment that will be recognized for years. It is Super Metroid in 3D, and it's as complex and wonderful as any gamer could want. Any self-respecting gamer must own it.
    10.0

    Lasting Appeal
30+ hours to average completion. Requires much longer to earn 100%. Unlock art galleries, difficulty settings, and connect to GBA for extras. No multiplayer, but like Zelda, do we need it?
    9.0

    OVERALL SCORE (not an average)
    9.8

Two flaws that Fran mentions in the game is that combat can be repetitive (lock-on, shoot, lock-on, shoot, etc) and the fact that the graphics aren't perfect. I don't know about 9.8 though, if the combat can get repetitive, I would've taken more than just .2 off for that...
If my memory of her has an expiration date, let it be 10,000 years.

  3. Who'd think this game would get the praise it's getting a few years ago when it was announced to being a first person game.

  4. Oops, didn't see Andy's Metroid thread, combining these two suckers together.

  5. Anyway you shake it, 9.8 is a phenomonal score and we should all be glad whenever any game scores like that.
Were you glad when Vice City scored perfect 10's in EGM?

Anyway, although I'm not really that excited for about this game, I'll be getting anyway. From what I've seen the game looks to be quite enjoyable.

No, because I don't read EGM. I'm glad whoever reviewed it liked it that much though.

  7. Metroid Prime rocks, I liked it better then Fusion. Granted I only played demos for each (well the Fusion was not a demo, just only played it for like 15 minutes). And Prime is a blast, I can't wait to play more of the game. Everything works great in the game, I had zero problems doing anyhting in that game. I just know most of you will be very suprised.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

have you ever played a metroid game?

    no no seriously have you

cause if you had then this score for replay would make perfect sense

Metroid games have always been about exploring and going for better times

you play through it your first time and you may take awhile and only get say 30 - 50%

then the next time you play it you go through it faster or you go to find all the items

then the next time you play it you go for something else

ive done this with all the metroids specially Super Metroid my first time through only took me just under 7 hours, not long but when you consider ive probably gone through the game 10 times over with my final time clocking in at just under 2 hours and just shy of 100% id say thats pretty damn good replay value and if Prime is like that then it makes alot of sense for it to get such a high score there

sur eive allready played and beaten Fusion but ill still go through it a few more times once the game comes in, 1 so i can find all the items (beat it with only 46% found) and 2 to get a faster time ( just under 5 hours here)
    Where I play

  9. John, you can apply that to almost any game.

Who, seriously, get's 100% on any game 1st time through?

  10. Penny Arcade's Gabe is a few hours into it and isn't completely sold yet.

I am not sure about the control yet. I am hesitant to say it's bad because there may just be a learning curve that I'm only at the beginning of. Right now it's pretty frustrating. The lock on mechanism is a nice idea but it's often hard to get it to lock onto the shit your interested in shooting. For some reason whenever there is a giant wasp stinging the fuck out of my asshole the lock on mechanism decides that the real threat is coming from the potato bug looking thing on the other side of the room. The game needs a quick turnaround button something fierce. Also when a group of enemies are attacking you at once the lock on system won't automatically target the next closest enemy after you destroy your current target. So you end up having to press the lock on button, kill the bug, press it again, and kill the next bug and so on. It seems to me like it should just switch to the next enemy and let you keep firing away. Also they don't make it very easy to look around. This wouldn't be such a big deal if the lock on system actually worked but there are lots of times were I had to manually look around all the while trying to get the lock on system to actually target the thing I wanted to shoot. If they are gonna make you look around they should have made looking around easier. Maybe that's some kind of upgrade you have to get later on in the game. The "fun" upgrade or something, I don't know
From the demo I played I could see his complaint but I don't think it'll get in the way too much. Well, not as much as it seems to getting in the way with him anyway.
I thought you were gay.... i guess not.
