Thread: What do you do for a living?

  1. I still say that Gamestop policy is complete crap - I mean, from what I remember hearing about it - they'd apply it to an employee's actions away from work as well. Such as if you were buying games from customers who came in the store say at the customers own house (a private residence) - Gamestop if they found out could still manage to fire you.

    Godamn Tracer - I still think you should introduce Joel to the shitkickers - he's been needing it for a long time. I hope I don't see that guy on a bad day.

  2. I work at a small little restaurant as a waitress(I am a man, but working at what feels like a truck stop diner has caused me to feel very waitressy). Go to school, too. No matter how depressing you think your job is, try waiting on the same old people day after day who have nothing better to look forward to then death. Fine by me though, they are very crappy tippers.

  3. Tracer, I wouldn't say I do nothing. My post count compared to others should indicate that. While the database admin side is quiet, I'm the only person who knows their way around the backend of our systems here. So I wind up doing a lot of custom reports, troubleshooting, occasional module creation, etc. Exchange is livable (it does give me fits, especially when we were used for a relay early this year). I'd say 40% of my time is report-writing, 30% is progam admin/troubleshooting for our back office software, and the rest is DBA duties and other I.T. stuff. It pays the bills.
    Never under any circumstance scrutinize the mastication orifice of a gratuitous herbivorous quadruped.

  5. Ambition for me always tends to be replaced with apathy. Yes I know thats a defeatist attitude but hell...

    Here's my lay opinion, Bandit, even without knowing all of the facts. (1) I'm sure it seems unfair that Gamestop fired you; (2) Valid arguments could be made on your behalf; (3) You would, in all likelihood, still lose the case for a variety of reasons (not the least of which would be that you were probably an at-will employee who could be terminated at any time, for any reason, so long as it did not violate a fundamental public policy); (4) even if you could win, it would not be even remotely financially worthwhile to pursue (for either you, or your lawyer.)

    Sorry, man, but I would recommend putting your efforts into finding another job, or making equivalent money off of continued e-bay sales. Alternatively, you could start a one-man rally outside that particular Gamestop, and repeatedly yell "No justice, no peace!!"

    Same here. Why else would I subject myself to making a living as a grunt at a supermarket? Because it's easy as fuck and it pays my bills (surprisingly enough), and that's what I've always perferred in life, sadly. Meaning, I do just enough to get by.

  8. yeah - i know how you feel Omega, this whole thing reminds me of Dante in Clerks, that scene when he defends his way of life to Randall, who tells him to "Shit or get off the pot." Sometimes life, while not totally bad, is not as great as you know it should be, but merely stuck in a pathetic state of being comfortable - and then we tend not to risk it all on the "big money and faboulous prizes" - as Dante would say.

  9. Well hell, a chance for another shameless plug and I almost missed it. As most of you know I believe, I'm the assistant manager of www.videogamedepot.com and I take care of alot of the internet business. I'm also a full time student (12 credit hours) at a local community college.
