What about when one of your real life friends (me) is the entire country away from you. Wouldn't it be cool to play with all your friends that are with you and ALSO with your buddy in Vietnam at the same time? I agree that with online PC gaming, its not the same social experience, but with the capability to play with people next to you and people you know across the country at the same time, it can only add to the experience.

I would really enjoy playing a game with you and Technosphile chillin' in the Pa crib, while I'm on the other line, chattin' it up.

Sure, nothin beats playing with people next to you, but if its not possible, online gaming with those you know can be the next best thing.

PS: I'm obviously gonna defend online gaming, they brainwashed me!

I am fine with an open ended game, provided there is some way to measure progress. For instance, I am 70% done with GTA:VC. I will probably get to 100% before I stop and/or start over. Animal Crossing, on the other hand, got old because there was nothing to progress. Collecting fossils was the most fun I got out of that, and you could only find 2 or 3 a day.

That's fine and such, if you have friends...

All my real-life friends, and even my younger relatives have more or less stopped gaming with the SNES.

The only people I know who play games are the people I meet/have met online because of gaming.
