  1. GOD WHY!?!? Why my DC?

  2. My DC died less then a year from the launch

Had to replace it then !

You could send it to SEGA for $55 plus shipping.

I'm actually still having problems with my DC the screen goes black when I'm playing games and doesn't always reset. I've even cleaned the lens, but am not willing to take it apart.

I may have to pick up another used one.

Maybe you can get a replacement drive from National Console Support?

Do you hear the CD drive start spinning when you put in a disk? If you do, then I'd try cleaning the lens with a cd lens cleaner. If you don't hear the CD player spinning, then your cd drive is toast.

Look at the laser lens. Mine sits at the outside part of the CD. Gently pull the laser lens inward to the center spindle. Try a disk then. If you have'nt used a laser lens cleaner yet, I would do so now. Don't use isoprophal alcahol, as it has mineral oils in it. Use a true laser lens cleaning kit.

My old DC had this problem once, after browsing the net with it. I pulled the lens to the center and it booted up fine. It made a start/stop noise with the cd drive when it was'nt working.

  9. The DC was pretty porly made, even though you don't hear as much bitching about it as you do about the PSX. My first DC's door mechanism broke after 6 months or so. There also have been many reports of optical drives & controller ports going out.

I actually dread every time I turn mine on. I just know someday it won't work correctly & I will cry all day long.

  10. In my desperation I start searching the net for solution and found this:

Your dreamcast probally need calibrating, you can do this yourself by unscrewing the dreamcast you have to remove the modem to get to one of them. Then when you have the cover of just move the wires from under the clips (they are to the right if you are facing forward) and then push the laser eye down (away from the spindle) then all you do is lift the laser and fold it over the you should see a little dial thing just move this a bit, i mean just a little bit to the right (if you are facing forward) then just put the laser back and put the lid back on don't screw it on and then try your dreamcast if the cd catches just push down on the lid a bit if it works screw it back together if it does'nt then try and move the dial thing on the laser a bit more to the right until it works it helps if you try and remeber were it was before you more it so you can put it back if it gets worse.

Can some1 tell me if this would work? I don’t want to risk in opening my DC
