Thread: Good Documentaries...

  1. Good Documentaries...

I'm not neccesarily speaking of National Geographic documentaries that don't neccessarily stand on their own as films. I'm more speaking of those that stand on their own as entertainment.

    A couple of my favorites:

    Crumb
    American Movie

    Thoughts? Suggestions? Questions? Comments? Deliveries?

PS: Post links to info if at all possible. Thanks

  2. Hoop Dreams was pretty cool.

    Roger and Me
    Dark Days
    Vernan, Florida
not really docs, but sort of-

    My Best Fiend
    Akira Kurosawa, The Last Emporer
Stanely Kubrick, A Life in Pictures
    This is Spinal Tap!

HBO had some great yet disturbing doucumentries.

    Prison life

Gangs including white gang bangers- good stuff

    Animal Cruelty- sad to watch

    Crack

So many good ones I wonder if you can get them on video, technically they aren't full Movies but are worthy of a mention.

If your into Wrestling check out "Beyond the Mat"

  5. Scratch and The Freshest Kids are two really great hip-hop culture docs.

Beyond the Mat was super good. nothing says funny like the Rock being all nice to Foley's kids and then beating him with a chair 15 times in the next scene.

  6. Forgot about Scratch, hell I even put a thread up about it in the music board. Speaking of Scratch, the same director did the same thing but with grunge music in Hype!.

!!! Oh, I forgot about American Movie, I got it confused with something else. That movie is great, though is it real or not? The first time I seen it I thought it was but I had my doubts on second viewing. Anyways, a friend of mine, who is interested in making a movie saw it and afterwards said, "I don't want to go on living" and "I got to go back to college"

And "This is Spinal Tap" is just flimed like a Documentary, but I hope you knew that. "No, it goes to 11."

  9. PBS has a lot of good random documentaries. The middle america suburb teen type ones are always fun.

  10. Baraka is awesome. seriously, if you can find it, get it.
