Thread: Microsoft locking out modded Xboxes on Xbox Live

  1. Is that Skinny Puppy!? =O
Buy Yakuza and Oblivion. Help yourself, help TNL.

  2. Spare me the whine. If you want to mod your XBox, fine. Just don't bring it online because I and many others don't want to play against someone who may have the ability to fuck with your system thanks to a foreign program.
You probably don't think I'm a very nice guy...

It's a stretch, but it may be a good thing that they are keeping moded XBox's off the network. If modded XBox's could do all these other amazing things, how long would it be before modded XBox's could send virus and stuff throughout the network. It would also increase the chance of cheating. There are many risk involved with having allowing the modded systems on the network. Piracy is only one concern.

  5. why don't they have the option to allow you to just register an imported copy to your system so you can play it without that F*cking lock-out code getting in the way?? They could also make a seperate server for modded systems otherwise M$ will always be pissing of it's customers for all the money they spent. (and not getting anywhere with it)
don't wanna tangle with you, I'd rather tangle with him.
I think I'm gonna bash his head in...

Because they want people to buy systems, not Mod chips. No company makes a console just so people can hack it and so whatever. Why get mad at Microsoft when all console makers are against things like this. Consoles are proprietory (sp). If you want freedom stick with a PC. After all for imports there are plenty of Japanese XBox's available. (unless there are voltage issues with the system, I don't have a clue if the voltage of Japanese electronics is different than here)

which reminds me of how many people out there really like to burn console games onto theirs which is something I don't really feel good about discussing here.

What really needs to be done is to work with the people who have trouble with playing games we're NOT getting from overseas and that's buy having to resort to mod-chips or any other means because of how M$ and all the other bastard game makers are still trying to "keep us in line".

Really, we have absolute rights to whatever the hell we want to play wheather they wanted us to or not! It would have done us a great deed if they thought about making some possible solutions for these games rather then putting their foot down all the time...

But you can blame the past generations of systems for making Microsoft think that way. All they blame can't be put on them as they weren't the ones that started this. In fact if I'm correct Nintendo and Sega were as I don't think the atari had any type of region blocking.

By setting up games for different regions it allows game makers to cater more to things that are generally accepted in each region. Alas because of this some games don't end up comming here. If you want to fuss about being kept in like fuss at everyone. Remember when those special PSX CD's came out that detected the Mod chips that were out back then and worldn't work on those systems? And what was one of the main reasons that Nintendo stuck with Carts and then later with the mini-CD's. There's even Sega with their updated DC.

But with the internet we have more freedom than ever. In fact, if there are still ads in game magazines like the ones that were in gamefan, you could probably order an import system from one of those places and get what you want.

For the most part we still have options without buying a mod chip. It's not really that neccessary IMO.

  9. Something I don't quite understand... Are there actually people willing to mod a console just to cheat on a game or whatever? I understand where moneysucker is coming from with not allowing modded consoles on for piracy reasons, but who is willing to get a soft/hard upgrade for a game like, Unreal Championship for example, so they can play online with god mode or infinite ammo?

  10. Umm, this is a non-issue everyone. All the new Xbox mod chips have a dual boot option. Basically, this means you can boot with the modded bios or unmodded bios, so you can have your imports and your xbox live on the same system. Problem solved.
