I just beat the rock boss...how many artifacts should I have by now? Do you need all the artifacts to beat the game? I ask because I only have the first one you get when you find the Chozo shrine in the overworld...

You need twelve to finish the game, you find them at your leisure although it's easier once you have access everywhere, also theres a quite a few that require a specific upgrade so best just wait to pick them up near the end.
so I got charge upgrade for the wave shot, cold shot, wondering where the plasma charge upgrade is. Anybody find this one yet.

thanks for the tips guys. right before work i got in a trance like state that usually i only get with racing games. i had 4 energy tanks i believe and i still had 3 left when i beat him. for some reason i was just insane. just mashing away with regular shots...jumping over the ice attack. now to figure out what to do next.
