I was disappointed, but at the same time, I would have gone on a murderous rampage if I died after surviving those ridiculous battles.

Has anyone beated Thardus in Hard Mode yet? I don't think it's possible.

I'm 8 en. tanks, 70 missiles and a prayer into the Phazon Mines.

The Wave & Ice Troopers are easy, but the Power Troopers just have their way with me every time (I can't express how indignant it is to make for a doorway and be shot execution-style in the back of the head by those bastards!!)
I've managed to take down my first Elite with little trouble (I think the shift in enemies from ninja-speed Pirates to a regular lumbering idiot like the Elite helps.) But in the Dynamo, I'm usually down to 30% energy--tanks depleted, and with no X-ray visors to spot the invisble Droid that attacks when you get near the malfunctioning dynamo.
Thermal mode tells me nothing and that or normal mode gets NO lock on whatsoever. Tried using various beams & missiles but died before I could determine what (if any) do damage.

Did I miss the X-ray visor? In the Ruins, maybe? Or the Drifts? Should I back out & grab an extra tank or missiles (or are there any more?) I'm assuming that from the crane at the Mine entrance, I'll be grabbing the Grapple Beam and maybe another gun upgrade AFTER the Droid, but I'm not liking the way the game is taunting me right now...

Use charged shots, not individual shots. Also, a super missile will put them in their place pretty quick. Try not to engage multiples if you can, and if you have to, get yourself in a position with some terrain between you and them. Ideally, if the room allows it, engage them one at a time from a distance.

As for the obnoxious droid, you can't get a lock. Just use charged wave beam shots and it'll go down eventually. Continuously jumping in place will cause you to avoid all of its shots, but you'd be better off just getting down there with less damage. Take your time on the way, and improve your tactics against the pirates, or you'll be too battered to survive. There's a save point right there after you're done, so you're almost clear

Power Troopers suck. Use Super Missiles. The Elite, however, is a pussy. Shoot, shoot, shoot, jump over power wave, repeat.

As for that stupid invisible droid (does anyone know if he can be scanned or if he reappears?), I tracked the two purple lights while firing powered-up wave cannon shots at him. Bunny-hopping like mad back and forth and firing wildly at the area of the lights (you'll start to catch on to where he is in relation to the lights after a while) worked for me. I usually get there with a tank or two, so I haven't actually worked out a strategy yet on him.

I think the first game I fought him I actually locked onto him and he was visible, but have no clue how I did it or anything. And no, you won't have the X-Ray visor yet.

The first time I did the mines I was wandering, continuously muttering, "Need a save point... need a save point..." I reached that drone, who finally killed me thanks to those damn autoguns, which pissed me off after the Elite battle. When I got back there again and found that save point right afterwards, I was pissed as hell.

Oh, just thought of something. Does the Wave Blaster lock onto that drone?

Thanks for the advice Victrix; MechDeus. Got the Wavebuster upgrade.
Now I get to make Wave Troopers dance on my off time! But, for a moment I was thinking "OOOOH! Plasma cannon!"

I'm gonna give it another try later; getting an item between difficult areas greatly reduces stress, I'll say. Another energy tank ought to even things up too.

The inviso droid near the malfunctioning thing can be taken out by simply shooting the malfunctioning thing with a missle...I think. If you're talking about the same thing I am, I'm pretty sure you can just shoot the tower with a powerful weapon and it takes out the flying inviso droid instantly.

Yes. I shudder at the thought of beating him any other way.
