Id say screw it and pick up that copy of Tunnel B-1 that you have had your eye on.
Even though the game sucks, I would buy it anyway, but I really enjoy big case PSX games, so....

Ok, I'll pick it up. It's been sitting there for a while, I might as well spend the $11 and see a first gen PSX game in all it's grandeur/suckitude.
Some pretty mixed reviews here, though.

Philosoma has some incredible CG work. The intro movie is still a treat to watch, even after all these years. The game itself is pretty blah, but what it lacks in gameplay it makes up in presentation. The audio is fantastic. The problem is it tries to do too much... top-down, horizontal, isometric... it doesn't really do any of them all that well. Still, I'd say grab it for $11. It's purdy at least.
Look out, man, Wooly's gone ape-shit.
I rented Philosoma back in '95 or '96 and I was blown away by the graphics. The game itself was okay, just a standard shooter. I imagine today it's still a standard shooter and I doubt the graphics would have the "wow-factor" they did back then.
I once considered this to be one of the most awesome shooters ever to grace the PS2. Then I woke up...
the CG work was nice. the programmer was a Japanese female. impressive!

However, it is kind of interesting for all the blatant sexual symbolism in the later cinema scenes. The final boss is a huge ovum that you fight while a voice in the background drones "fertilize... fertilize..." (IIRC). I kid you not.Now I need a copy.
The one thing that ruins Philosoma for me:
"Roger!"
It is good. Get it.
