Thread: Philosoma, $11. Should I?

  1. I bought it cuz it brings back fond memories from 96, when two of my, how do I put it, "skill impaired" friends were on the last day of is rental and stuck in stage 2(stage 2!). I came over, laughed at them, and they challenged me to beat it. One hour later, they looked like they wanted to kick my ass for doing it.

However, it is kind of interesting for all the blatant sexual symbolism in the later cinema scenes. The final boss is a huge ovum that you fight while a voice in the background drones "fertilize... fertilize..." (IIRC). I kid you not.
    Ha, that sounds cool.

Wow! I just figured out that IIRC stands for "if I remember correctly." Its taken me years to solve that !!

  3. Cool, never knew what it stands for either

Come on guys, go easier on this game. For $11 is worth it to get it

  4. I liked it, actually. I don't see what there is about it to hate. It's a shooter with cool cinemas (even if they aren't as detailed as some of the stuff today, they were still imaginative, like the atmosphere re-entry scene). And whatever kind of shooter view you prefer - side, top down, iso, whatever, it's got it. There are tons of shooters ahead of it in the category, but there's nothing particularly awful about it.

I don't usually get hyped up about cinematics, but the re-entry scene was incredible.

I think of it as "If I recall." Either works, though.

As harsh as I tend to be, you're always way too easy. :P

With as little time as I have, I don't want to waste it playing mediocre games... and this is one seriously mediocre game. It does nothing well, gameplay-wise.

And $11 could buy several lunches, y'know.

My favorite is a tie between the one with the tentacle penii filled with human skulls and the one where your ship flies into the planet's gaping vagina.

  7. Ok, bought it. Now to go home and see how well it's aged.

I'm kind of surprised, it uses the memory card. For some reason I was thinking that memory cards didn't come out until a month or two after the system did. Maybe it's that I didn't bother to get one until Jumping Flash? Damn, that was a long time ago...

  8. I'm a little late to tell you to avoid purchasing Philosoma, so I'll just say this much instead...R-Type Delta owns Philosoma. If you don't own it yet, look for a cheap copy when you've got some spare cash.
