Thread: Can rechargeable batteries hurt your GBA?

  1. Can rechargeable batteries hurt your GBA?

I bought myself a GBA yesterday, and noticed that a flyer that accompanied the game I picked up with it recommended against using rechargeable batteries in your GBA. Supposedly, this can harm the GBA's circuitry, because of the effects of certain chemicals used in rechargeable batteries. Is there any truth to these claims? I'd bought myself a set of rechargeable batteries along with my GBA, but I wouldn't want to use them in it, if it can do my GBA harm.

  2. sounds like nintendo has some type of deal.. with battery companys.. becasue have you seen the energizer comericals.. they constantly use the GBA..

  3. I've been using rechargeables since I bought my GBA on the day of the US release. Still works perfectly so far.
    "Tick-tock"

  4. I'm sure its nothing to worry about, because a battery pack is essentially the same thing as rechargeable batteries, and I've never heard of anyone having problems with those.

Its no different then when Nintendo cartridges say to not use rubbing alcohol to clean your games (when the official Nintendo cleaning solution is in fact rubbing alcohol), or when Sony says to buy their horizontal stand for "ventilation purposes", or XXXX TV company says to only use XXXX TV stands...ect..ect...

    Pay it no heed.
You probably don't think I'm a very nice guy...

  5. Thanks for the feedback, guys. Sounds more like corporate B.S. than anything else.

  6. horizontal stand... seriously, what the hell were they thinking?

  7. Been using rechargeable batteries with all 3 GBA's I've ever had in my posession, and if it was gonna cause any type of problem, I'm sure it would've manifested itself by now. This is just a shameless ploy by the Big N to get the battery companies they have deals with to unload more AA's, make people spend more, and further pollute the environment. Don't listen to 'em, FIGHT THE POWER!!!
    omg TNL epics!

  8. Um, as an I.T. director with a B.S. in Chemistry (no, those two have nothing to do with each other), the chemicals in a battery will have no affect on the electronics powered by said battery. As long as the battery provides the correct voltage (and they have to, otherwise some group would crack down on them), there is no difference between a rechargeable and a standard crippled battery. The chemicals in a rechargeable battery stay in the battery. They don't leave it unless the battery cracks (same with standard batteries). The only exchange between the GBA and the batteries is electrons.

  9. HAHAHA..nintendo has their own rechargeable battery packs..is that against their little disclaimer?

  10. much like anything else it probably has more to deal with the quality of the rechargeable batteries your using and less about them being rechargeable batteries

i know i got from a friend one time really really really cheap ass lame generic rechargeable batteries once, after the second recharge or so they started leaking or something (it was a weird corrosion if you will) in my portable cd player of the time and caused quite a mess, ive heard of similar stories when it comes to cheap generic rechargeables im sure if your using good quality rechargeables you wont have anything to worry about
