Yao Ming scores 18 points on 7-11 shooting with 8 rebs and 4 blocks in about 33 minutes of a victory over the Wizards.
Over the past 6 games or so, he's shooting 38-46 from the field...
lol.
Truthfully, look at Yao's legs - they're huge. Rik Smits was bony all the way, up and down, so he wasn't really ever going to be able to develop into a great low-post player. Yao's different, his body's good for more than just height...so I think he's going to much much better than Smits.
I think in a few years he's going to be great. I doubt he'll ever get to the level that Olajuwon played at in his prime (who could?) but he'll definitly be more than what we're seeing today. When I heard of the guy - I thought he'd be a walking stick, but not so.. He's a big kid, tall and built.
He and David Carr are two rookies I'm watching very very closely (also being a Houston Sports fan and such...).

Looks like someone doens't watch the basketball. I didn't know who to watch in that game, Ming, or Nash's beautiful flowing hair...Originally posted by 88mph

career numbers for Yao?
16 ppg (shooting high 50's from the field)
8 rebounds
3 blocks
good passerm good playmaker and defender...an asset to any team and a big factor. Maybe not a superstar but an all-star and a hot commodity

I think Yao is going to be an all-star...sort of like a super Rik Smits, and the best center in the league after Shaq.
Hey, speaking about centers, have you guys seen Olowakandi, on the Clippers? He took a couple years to mature (he used to suck), but man, he's averaging a double-double now I think.
This is one guy who is all about the money. He is playing well and demanding the ball because he is in his contract year. Once he gets his big deal next summer, he'll be back to his old-underacheiving self. Think "Ike Austin"Originally posted by Stone

ack! I do not want to think of Ike Austin.
That guy looked like half gargoyle and half retarded Nosferatu.
He was definitely playing well for the Magic and then he started playing as bad as he was ugly with the Wizards.
Yao Ming will be a force in the paint when he gets older, tomorrow we'll see how good the Kandi man really is when he plays against this guy and vice versa.
Remember also that he didn't play the full game of that 30 pointer. He could have scored more.
I think he's already showing a lot of confidence, and he doesn't seem to be intimidated by the USA or the NBA. It's going to be exciting watching him play in the future, and I think the hype(although awful) is well deserved.
He reminds me a lot of Shawn Bradley, only that he can shoot from the perimeter and he's athletic.
I think you confused Ike Austin with Popeye Jones.Originally posted by amerlop

Rockets play Clippers today, I hope Ming keeps it up...
Trail Blazers after that... I'm torn - do I watch Rockets or Texans today? Humm...
Also - I hate the Rockets 'new' Jeresys... they've had them for awhile, but I really used to like the old Red and Yellow.
