Thread: Age Matters

I don't think he was talking about the toughness of your classes - HS is a cake walk in the fact that you don't have to worry about getting fired, being late with the rent and evicted and so on... basically HS is a social club for teenagers where fights and memorizing facts takes place. Classes may be as hard or as easy they can be but it'll never make life much harder than anything else your going through. Look at you damned silver lining and take advantage of being in HS.. you've only a semster left.

But I agree, I think it's impossible for games to hold quite the same magic as they did in youth, since the human brain simply doesn't get as excited over something that's not completely new. But Metroid Prime comes damn close to recapturing that magic, though.

EDIT: Oh yeah, Final Fantasy VII was a great game.

  4. Final Fantasy VII was decent. I feel bad that Sephiroth had to be the villain in a game with such a bland cast of characters, though.

No, kids, Cloud WAS NOT "cool." Nor was Squall (except for in KH), and Tidus deserves to be shot.
So I forced my hands in my pockets and felt with my thumbs and gallantly handed her my very last piece of gum.

Playing FF7 was like getting kicked in the gut after the great times I had with FF4 and FF6. Don't even make me whip Chronotrigger out.
Yeah. I remember them. I played them and beat them many many years ago. Good games for their time that I will never ever play again. FFVII however is one of the best games I have ever played, and I still play it every now and then to this day.

FFVII got me kicked out of college because I was playing it too much.

True, but it's still more complicated than junior high, what with thinking about college and work and stuff, which is the point I'm trying to make. I know that high school is a piece of cake compared to "real" life, but I was only comparing it to junior high, which compared to high school is like the easiest thing in the world. Just wanted to clear that up.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

  8. LOL isn't great when you put stuff off for so long that you actually feel the deadlines creeping up your ass.

  9. I do think nostalgia plays a huge part in all of this, as others have mentioned.

I mentioned FF because at the time, it totally blew the socks out of Dragon Quest/Warrior. I played DW and even though I got to the end, I derived no enjoyment out of it and was disgusted by the genre... Then Nintendo Power pimped the heck out of Final Fantasy and I tried it... back then it was so incredible, and quite a huge step up from Enix's effort.

But yeah, if I had to play FF now, I bet you I'd chuck it across the room. I don't consider FF1-X to have good gameplay at all, and almost the only thing FFIV and VI have above FF 1 is that it has a story period. But only FF has the excuse of poor gameplay given the infancy of the genre when it came out. It deserves a lot of credit for opening up a lot of doors, and the other FFs deserve criticism for not furthering the genre one bit.
