Thread: Gamespot at it again...

  1. I love that kind of brain-dead logic.

  2. Isn't:

"Actually, considering you could merely back up your pilot to a memory card to circumvent the finality of death, this seems more like an inconvenience than something that adds to the game's realistic atmosphere."

Akin to saying that Contra sucks because anyone can beat the game with 30 lives?

  3. How is my logic braindead

    ok

  4. No, no, your logic is great. The logic you used in your post, to show the idiocy of people was what I was referring to.

The above ruins any sort of credibility the reviewer may have had. The controller IS the game and the many functions essentiel to the immersion of it all. It could not be done on the pad, utter nonsense.
If you hadn't put the above in quotes I never would have believed it was written. Scary what's going on at major sites now a days.

  7. The power of Zach Morris forces me to accept your understanding.

That would be the case if that was all he said. You cut out the most important part of it:

"So does Steel Battalion really need to be played with that gigantic controller? No, since most of the nonessential functions could have been mapped to secondary menus and crammed onto the standard Xbox pad.But that's missing the point entirely. The game, with its simple "dodge then shoot" gameplay, isn't really worth playing in its own right. But when taken as a complete package, Steel Battalion is an impressive, one-of-a-kind product."

Suddenly he's aware of what would have been a dumbass comment.

  9. I think this is damaging my faith in TNL opinions more than Gamespot reviews :P

And I think numeric scores are crap anyway (too much personal bias goes into picking a number), so that doesn't affect my opinion of the review much (which seemed plenty fair).

  10. Meh. If he didn't like the game that's fine, but I think there's a disconnect between the game and score. Personally, I think it's the best playing mech game of its type, and I was a Mechwarrior 2 fiend back in the day.

The nonsense about playing without the controller? Yeah, you could make it control just like Mechwarrior 2 did on the Saturn. Guess what? Wouldn't be the same game. You'd have to chip so much stuff out of it, it just wouldn't happen.

I used to really love Gamespot, but their reviews began to irritate me a while back. I finally used the horrible site redesign as the perfect excuse to stop visiting altogether.
Look out, man, Wooly's gone ape-shit.
