Thread: Gamespot at it again...

Likewise, a good game that's really only meant for a certain group of people should not be penalized because it doesn't bend over backwards to please everyone. It's like taking points off in a review of VF4 simply because some people just don't like 3D fighters.

Saying Tekki could be done on a pad is missing the point. The controller isn't just the instrament you play the game with in this case, _it is an essential part of the game._ Playing it without the controller is like taking away the ability to kick in VF. Sure, you can play without it and perhaps even win, but its cutting out a sizable chunk of the experience.

Tekki is a niche game to the extreme. If you're a member of that niche, you'll love it. If you're not, you won't. Simple as that. Because of this, I don't have a problem with his review at all. It will only drive away casual players, which is should. Casual players, like Despair (sorry to use you for an example, I mean no offense) would feel cheated by this game. They will feel that they have wasted their money. The reviewer is obviously not part of this niche, hence less than perfect score. I bet he even wanted to give it a lower score than that, but capcom threatened to drop the controller on his head.

Gamespot could give it a 1.0 for all I care. I'm surprised they gave it the score they did since the only Xbox game they have ever liked was Halo and nothing since.
Once again, he made that comment because people are asking about it, in fact he probably gets e-mail about.

And holy shit, as an example of a casual gamer, you list the guy who posts by far the greatest number of posts on this board, the guy who buys a ton of games and plays them all the time and even got his son into hardcore gaming. I guess since he doesnt spray his shorts at the latest crap import shooter on NCSX he's a casual gamer. Whatever.

    Youre an idiot.

    Congradulations, you missed the point.

But then again, as you so correctly pointed out, I am an idiot.
I make Forest Gump look like Stephen Hawking.
I make the three stooges appear as Oscar Wilde (especially if they all stand on each other's shoulders).

Being an idiot, I was trying to point out that people who don't fit the niche this game was designed for (ie Despair based on his numerous posts) would not like this game. I was also stupid enough to think that calling someone a hardcore gamer was an insult and being a casual gamer wasn't.

Perhaps I should seek employment as the fool at a local ren fair, but I'm far too stupid for that. :jest:

In all honesty, you shouldn't be paying attention to reviews anyway. Chances are that no matter what, you will always find something to upset you about any games review.

Make up your own fucking mind.

All gaming magazines and gaming journalists are idiots that I ignore and do not care about. They can take their reviews and burn in hell, for I do not care for them."

Translation of other 50% of review threads on TNL: "OMG they gave [super-hardcore-shitty-game-that-I-like-because-TNL-likes-it] a low score! Those fuckheads! Why, if I ignored professional gaming reviews like I always say I do because I hate them, I wouldn't be as infuriated as I am right now! No, I haven't played the game yet, but dammit, from all the previews I had read at the site that I swore I ignore on a regular basis, it had seemed this was the type of hardcore gaming experience that I would enjoy because I like fitting in with TNL! Damn it all to hell!"
Yeah, but this site is much bettar about reviews than just about any other gaming site I've ever visited.

That said, I'll make the call when I play it.

  9. I'm with 88, if you can't make up your own mind about a game, then you deserve to be ripped off.
