Thread: Can I b**** about Metroid Prime?

Even if it were a secondary control scheme you had to choose manually, I'd love the game so much more. But the game controls like an updated Doom, and I can't hack that anymore after playing games like Half-Life and Halo.

Look, it's obvious you aren't going to agree with those who'd like dual-stick control. They could have made this game work with it, and I feel it would have been for the better. The game is fine without it, but it could feel so much better for me and those select few who prefer the standard FPS contol scheme. But I guess I'm a lowly gamer for even questioning the Perfect game that is Metroid Prime. Especially in a thread called "Can I bitch about Metroid Prime?"
You weren't talking about the lack of dual stick control. I kind of agree with you there. You were talking about the lock-on.

While I'm often hitting the C-Stick to adjust my aim out of habit, I still don't see how that control scheme would have worked. A to fire, C-stick to aim, B to jump and dodge - how many fingers do you have?

I thought it was obvious. Getting rid of the lock-on would mean using a dual-stick control scheme. Otherwise how else would you be able to aim? It's the only reasonable solution, to me at least. Maybe I should have been more precise.

The R-trigger would be to shoot, L-trigger to use missiles, and Y to change weapons. I think it could have worked. I just wished they made another control scheme optional, or allow you to customize the controls.

No one has a goddamn clue as to what I'm talking about, but because you pointed that out I'll just drop some words there....

I had already been thinking this, and I'd like to know how you propose the charge system would be triggered.

Even then, the enemies would have to be dumbed down, and I'd rather they stay quick.

Oh, c'mon. Let's not blow the whole spoiler thing out of proportion.

  5. sorry, i know it seems picky, but there are things in this game that i love finding out about on my own..
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!

  6. It seems to me that a lock-on-less control scheme that attributed the L and R buttons to left and right strafing would work too.

  7. didn't twist your words at all. You said there's no skill involved in the aiming/shooting, and I say you're wrong. Again, how much have you played?
I'm about 3 hours in, but I'm not sure what your point is. Does the control scheme suddenly change in the middle of the game or something?

  8. No, but aiming and shooting (successfully) require skill and planning despite the lock-on.

  9. What do you mean aiming? Why would you ever need to "aim", if you can just use lock-on? Basically the "skill" you are talking about just involves turning your head to the right place so you can look at and lock on to the appropriate enemy right?

  10. Stop trying so hard to find the faults and just play the whole thing through. If you want to talk about the aiming though, it's fine. Sometimes the lock-on doesn't lock on to what I wanted to with multiple targets so that's when it's time to bust out the free shoot, but very few times has that happened. The lock on is for the most part accurate and great.

The lock on isn't a 'crutch' like using continues in a shooter or something. It's part of the gameplay(looking for weaknesses after you scan and so forth),and also maneuvering while locked on sort of answers the question to the shooting while running thing.
