Thread: Super Monkey Ball Jr.

  1. Super Monkey Ball Jr.

I picked up Super Monkey Ball Jr at Toys R Us's Buy 2 get 1 sale. The graphics looked nice, I don't own a cube, and I really wanted the game when it was scheduled for DC. So I figure this will do the trick...

Boy does it ever. This game is a dead on port of the GC version. As I'm sure you know it's polgonal 3D, which has not lost its novelty on the GBA even if it has been done before. The game is smooth as silk. There's very very little noticable pop up, and you can always see everything you need to. Perhaps most impressively, the control actually works great. The lack of analog is compensated for by using the A and B buttons to move slower or faster, which gives you three degrees of control, which seem to be enough.

The game is basically 2/3 of the GC game. It's 60 levels instead of 90, and 4 minigames instead of 6. Other than that the game is fully intact. Great game, especially if you don't already own it on cube.

EDIT: Whoops, I guess this should be moved to reader reviews/impressions. My bad.

  2. Wow, that's weird...
I was just looking at this game on random sites. Haven't heard of it before today. Being a big fan of SMB, I promptly told my girlfriend that she should get it for me for Christmas.
    It looks REALLY good.
But, I saw one mini-game I've never heard of... I wonder what Monkey Duel is...

  3. Brilliant!

I didn't even realise it already came out! It's looked great throughout it's development so I have been looking forward to it. I am quite happy to hear that it turned out well.

I think I need me an early birthday present...

  4. Sounds awesome.

  6. Big question - what save features are there, and how are the levels grouped?

I was never good enough at the GC version to get far in anything but the beginner levels. I hope this version saves after every level, or has the levels broken into groups of 10 or 20

    Yeah, I'm weaksauce.

  7. Is it a "port' of Monkey Ball 1 or 2?

  8. More questions!

Is Monkey Golf still crazy fun?
How many cartridges needed for link play?

  9. For someone who didn't play the cube version, no analog control won't be much of an issue. but I don't think I could play the game for 2 consecutive minutes with digital control. I played the demo and it just wasn't the same Monkey Ball I know and love.

  10. I knew it wouldn't suck. If only I weren't saving up for a new console...
