Thread: E3 2003

  1. it's sad, because...

the official rule is you have to be 18. It's sad that you can go to E3 and easily see that rule broken. Not to mention a lot of people who claim to be 'in the know' go only to stay on demos for long periods of time, and to crowd out kiosks. I really don't care why you're there once you are, but show curtosy to everyone - play a game for a minute or two, and move on. So it's sad to see that there's a rule out there to keep attendence down, it isn't applied, and so we get an environment where its crowded and people aren't all that concerned about being 'fair' to everyone else. Is this the sole fault of those under 18? No, but then again, the rule is the rule...and it's broken over and over.

  2. King, you believing that you're more mature and more knowledgable about the industry than most adults is subjective, and pretty damned egotistical as well. You can believe it all you want, but if you can't convince others of it, it's a moot point.

  3. How is it egotistical to state the truth? It's not really subjective either, as I know more facts about games and deleopers than most adults do. That is a certainty. Thanks for the help though. I think I'll just hold off for a few years and just go to that newfangled UGE.

  4. The point here is...in all due respect, your statement is your personal opinion. It has not been proven, or at least documented, so honestly you're free to say what you want, but that won't really change anything.

If you're more knowledgeable...great. That doesn't make you anymore "qualified" to go. There are specific credentials required, if you can meet those credentials (whether they're official or conjured), then the ISDA will determine your eligibility. This type of discussion about who knows more is not only irrelevant but should not really be addressed here, it will create a heated argument and I really don't feel like having to mediate when it gets crazy.

  5. I agree with you, Bahn. The point I was trying to make was that age is not always proportional to intellect or maturity.

Adults in general or adults in the videogame industry?

  7. In general.

  8. That's what I thought.

  9. Although I'd like to think I know more than some in the "industry." I guess it depends on what you define industry as. If it's the developers and publishers, than of course there is no contest. However, if you're talking about people who run websites and and even a few gaming journalists, than I believe my original statement rings true.

  10. Like I said, I find that hard to believe in regards to having more knowledge more than most people running gaming sites coming from someone that wasn't even old enough to remember the first arcades, Game & Watch, Colecovision and Atari 2400. Though the average age for persons running fansites are 15-19...this admission isn't really going anywhere...
