Thread: Superbit DVD

  1. Superbit DVD

    Ever heard of it? Apparently, it gives the best quality sound and visuals possible on a DVD player, but at the price of special features. I guess it would be good for multiple disc sets.

    There are only a few Superbit titles, though most of them are pretty crap. The only ones that interest me are Snatch and the future release of the RE movie.

    Anyone tried it/seen it?

  2. They're only worth getting if you have an Uber Home Theater system. If you don't you won't notice any difference 90% of the time.

    Fish around there if you want to know more. From what I know only some dvds look just a bit better (if you have a good setup), some of them look the same and I think some look worse.

  7. Unless you have an uber-setup, it depends on the title.

    For Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, I picked up the Superbit because the normal release has a lower-quality transfer. The Superbit had a redone transfer from a better master copy, I believe. The lack of extras on that disc don't bother me -- I don't care about an interview with Michelle Yeoh, nor do I care about the craptastic English dub.

    The superbit version of "5th Element" is considered essential reference material when testing out gear.

    Yes, I buy Superbits because they do look better to me. Anyone who owns or has rented a copy of "Goodfellas" or initial transfers of
    "Crouching Tiger..." can tell you what happens when transfers get rushed.
