And US release is still NOT HAPPENED. Fuckin Miramax.
I picked up a bootl...ahem... Hong Kong DVD of this in NY over the weekend.
Unbelieveable.
I definatly bought it for the gimmick, but there is one hell of a movie hiding inside of the absurdity of the concept.
Also... the subtitles are so bizarre that it actually increased my enjoyment of the film. I think SNK did the translation.
If you can find it, I highly reccomend picking up the HK DVD. You should be able to find it for five or ten bucks.

I honestly don't care if it comes out in the US or not.
I am quite happy with what I have.
I'm happy with my HK dvd as well, but its sad to see Miramax treating HK movie this badly![]()
The version I saw had an extra where you could see how the special effects were done if you pressed Enter when a certain icon popped up during the film. Not sure if this was in the bootleg though.

Death never looked so good.
It wasn't...
The US version will released in the spring. This must be the 3rd thread about this movie but whatever, its a great film, my favorite of 2001 right after LOTR. I like how in more than one ways the movie is a tribute to Bruce Lee, it all ties together so well in the ending.

Funny film; great to watch with your buddies. And that actress, um... *searches the net* ...ah! Vicki Zhao Wei, she was actually too good for such a silly movie. Definitely gorgeous.
88mph:
Not meaning to nitpick, but I've also a "Hong Kong DVD" copy of Shaolin Soccer... only it's legit.
My copy has that icon feature if you play the "special version" of the movie. It doesn't show you how the special effects were done, though; it puts back in the scenes that were edited out (and shows some bloopers at the end of the film). There's actually a whole separate part in the DVD's "special features" section dedicated to showing how most of the effects were done.Originally posted by Freeter

88mph, you might actually want to check out this DVD. It's worth it just for those scenes that were cut out.

...because without the bitter, baby, the sweet ain't as sweet.
Great movie, highly recommended. I have some DVD of it (don't know which) and it has the extras. That "Thriller" part was hilarious! So was the E.T. part with the girl at the end.
I don't have any extras...
I hate you all.
