Thread: Biggest disapointments of 2002?

  1. I was going to make some witty and degrading post regarding TheMachine50, but I am seriously at a loss for words.

His posts in this thread are easily among the worst I have ever seen on TNL and after reading his replies I've lost any faith I may of had in the human race.

God, have mercy on our souls.

But I am not much of a Metroid fan in the first place and I really do dislike playing in the first person so.. I guess I would probably rent or borrow the game if I had a Cube, but even if I had a Cube I'd probably not pay full price for it. I am pretty open minded to new things though so.. you never know. I might enjoy it more than I think. The kiosk demo seemed ok.
That makes sense... it's like forcing me to play old-school Phantasy Star or Dragon Warrior... they may be good games, but if I don't like it, I don't like it...
    Name: Rock
    Town: Arcadia

  3. TheMachine's stuff looks like your standard GameFAQs board fare.
    matthewgood fan
    lupin III fan

  4. Quick... we must find a way to prevent any more of them from getting in!! Close the hatches!

    Town: Arcadia

  5. Most personally dissapointing game: None, I forsaw all.
Most dissapointing considering the hype: Metroid Prime. Average in every way except polish. NOT GOTY, or even close.

Statements like that always baffle me. How can a game be good if you don't like it? What other criteria should be used to deem a game "good"?

Being balanced, substantial and well made. For example I think Shining Force is a good game, but I'm a crack baby with no attention spane so I'd rather go play Raiden Fighters.

It was ported from the Saturn version (Championship Circuit) and not the arcade, and all the music was remixed beyond recognition.

Well, not wanting to spend 50+ hours on a game is different than disliking it, isn't it? If not then I guess we'll just agree to disagree on the whole thing.

  9. Warcraft 3 was clearly the biggest dissappointment of the year.

I don't know... I think one can view games from two perspectives: objective and subjective.

Subjective is your opinion. What one may dig, others may not. And such is life.

And while it may not be possible to be entirely objective, one can analyze something to the point where you will see good qualities in something... yet it may not connect with you personally.

There are definitely games I like, that are not "good games". An example would be Sentimental Graffiti 2. The art is the best I've ever seen in a game or otherwise, and the stories (all revolving around tragedy) are very touching. But as a game, the gameplay stinks... and to anyone who is thinking of getting the game, I would recommend "cheating" by using a walkthrough. The gameplay is "be at the right place at the right time". But the game is broken up so specifically into 50 different possible places, at 16 possible times (8am-midnight), everyday for four months. Miss one event and your ending/game is screwed. I still love it, but not for the actual "game".

There are definitely games I do not like, that may be considered "good games". Examples of this are like the Zelda series.. it never did anything for me, but I consider it (at least the first) to be a well-made game. Well-designed dungeons, well-thought out with the puzzles and 2nd quest etc. But I just never liked it as much as others did.
