More Jet Li news and Hero controversy

Morgan Freeman and martial arts master Jet Li are in talks to co-star in a new thriller, Danny the Dog, it is reported.

The script for the English-language movie has been co-written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, who collaborated with him on The Fifth Element.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie, which is budgeted at £26.8m, is set to start production next month in the UK.

If Li decides to make the movie, it will reunite him with Besson whom he previously worked with as co-producer on Kiss Of The Dragon.

The film will be directed by Louis Leterrier, who recently made his helming debut with the thriller The Transporter.

Interesting. That would make Li's second colaboration with Besson, since they worked together on Kiss of Dragon.

Why cant they treat HK films with respect !!!

Well,
I didn't expect anything good from Miramax. All I can say is that these HK companies are the ones who need to stop all this by not selling their films to Miramax regardless of how much is offered. I mean come on, if you look at Miramax's history with HK films, there is not a single positive thing they have done.

So I have to say that it is just as much the HK companies' falts as it is Miramax's -- sell the film to Columbia or hell, don't release it here at all and keep the integrity of the industry and little longer. HK films thrived for decades without the support of the U.S. market, so why the hell do they need to sell every freaking movie now? Disney even bought up the rights to tons of old HK films so the HK DVDs are becoming super hard to find...this is ridiculous...

Not surprised. The film would've been more likely to win Best Foreign Film, just like CTHD(and I'm sure it will). Still looking forward to this though.

Despair...got alotta cash sitting around?

See...this is what the plan is. We aquire the rights to Hero (this is where we need the money). We also have to hire ourselves a crack team that is able to quickly translate and make subtitles for the film. Then we release the film in Cali in time for the oscars (at least next years) which if it does not win will hopefully be nominated. WE gain noteriety from doin this and then our company will go into soley bringing foreign films to the American market (mainly asian cinema).

Sounds like a plan? The only hard part will be getting hat initial money....
