Thread: Best Intro Sequence

  1. Best Intro Sequence

We've all had those games that just floored us before we even got to the title screen. Which game has you favorite intro sequence, and what exactly blew you away about it.

I think my #1 would be the Tales of Phantasia intro. The animation is drop-dead gorgeous. Some of the best I've seen. And Kohsuke Fujishima, author of Ah! My Goddess, handled the art, and it's just really impactful. Picturs speak better than words here:

Full version here, while I have space.

Tales of Eternia (import version) is close too, just because I love the music.

Flashback is also definately one of the best ever. Moody and stylish. I love it. CD game on a cartridge indeed.

  2. What system was Tales of Phantasia on? Those pics looks really awesome, what genre is it, where can I get it, etc?

For me, favorite intro would probably either Thunderforce 4 or Super Fantasy Zone, seeing the camera pan around Opa Opa getting ready to kick some ass almost brings a tear to my eye.

  3. My favorite intro has to be Vay's... only for the old guy using his most pathetic voice possible saying, "Looooooong ahhhhhgo..." And no matter how fast you were to press start to skip the intro you'd still have the hear, "Looooooooong ahhhhhgo..." It was annoying at first, but after hearing it 50 times it became quiet funny.

  4. Intros... so many good ones. Elemental Gearbolt, Sky Gunner, FFVIII, Rygar (mainly the music, but still), Chrono Cross (which also has mysterious clip nowhere else in the game), Chrono Trigger, JSRF (yeah, it's just an in-game clip, but I could watch it over and over, especially with that track playing), Valkryie Profile...

So hard to choose. Probably Sky Gunner, because that music sticks with me for days or weeks everytime I hear it. Although so does the FFVIII intro.

PSX, Import, RPG. It's availibe at Himeya. It's a total remake of a SNES game (It got the Lunar treatement. Total overhaul) and it's one of my favorite games

@Space Fantasy Zone. I know what you mean. God bless Opa Opa (the magical space thing, not the poster).

  6. The first five seconds of Contra: Hard Corps, where you burst through enemy lines in a flaming truck and jump out just before it bursts into flames.

If that intro were a Simpsons character, it would be Poochie. More specifically, Poochie in shades and hipster shirt riding a skateboard shouting "TO THE EXTREME!"

  8. There are tons, but right now I have the MGS2 opening theme stuck in my head, and everytime I play Substance I crank up the stereo and watch the intro.

  9. Oh yeah, Silhouette Mirage had a great intro. It's so cheesy, wailing 80s guitars and all, but I love it. Something about it. I could watch it a million times over.

  10. Zelda: OoT had a great intro sequence, as did Majora's Mask. Chrono Cross's was amazing, as was Sonic Adventure's. Toukon Retsuden 2 also featured a memorable one. I've got to go with...
    Sonic Adventure's being the best.
