Thread: Most underrated platformer of all time?

  1. Yeah, Plok's pretty cool once you get past its lack-of-Japaneseness. Great music.

Word. I can't believe SNK never made sequel to that. I mean, even if they made it and never released it, and just said stuff in interviews like "yeah, it's finished, but we're not going to release it because we like to do that sometimes", at least we'd know they tried.

I just picked it up from GameStop for $3. I'll get back to you once my SNES arrives next week.

  4. This should not be a Poll unless you put every platformer ever made on the list.

Anywho, I agree with Skullmonkeys. Its such pure platforming its insane. Ristar is also great, it chews Sonic to bits.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  5. I voted for Ristar. It does not seem that underrated to me, everyone seems to like it, but it's the best game on the list an I happen to love it!

If Alex Kidd in Miracle World was on there that would have won my vote, since I believe it is the most underrated platformer ever.

Rocket Knight Adventures and Super Magnetic Neo are good nominations as well.

  6. I'm another one who can't vote due to lack of Skullmonkeys. Poor Skullmonkeys, a minor forgotten near-classic.

Put in a world map and memory card support and rerelase it on Dreamcast. It'd still probably sell better than the PSX version. Sad, sad world, I tell you.

  7. I'm probobly going to be shot for this, but Ristar was only above average. It was original, but not as fun as Sonic, Rocket Knight Adventures (the true most underrated platforming series of all time), Bonk, etc.

The thing I have noticed about the Bonk games is that people who played them back when they came out tend to like them and people who played them years later tend to hate them. It's like that for a lot of old games but moreso than average with Bonk.
I didn't play my first Bonk game until a couple of years ago, and I loved it.

  8. Ok, just to go out on a limb here about underrated games.

Doesn't a large group of people giving a game the title of most underrated game of said genre, kind of a contradiction. I know this may seem dumb, and forgive me if what I said is pure idiocy.

I just think that this thread, and most of the others especially when they are in poll form, limiting your choices, are partial to contraversy.

I'm a big fan of Bonk(mostly the first game) but I don't know if I would call it underrated. The games are pretty well-known despite low popularity of the TG16.
I never was fortunate enough to play Bonk back when the games were new, since neither myself nor anyone I knew had a TG-16/PCE. I finally got to play it around 4-5 years ago and I loved it. Also, I know a few others in similar circumstances and most people tended to quite like the game still. So, I'd say it's aged pretty well.

I think it would be really cool to see a new Bonk GBA game. Is there any chance this could happen?

When is the last time Bonk appeared in a game. I know he shows up in Saturn Bomberman.

  10. BUG!!! on the Saturn, there is even some new rip off game.
