Thread: Halo vs. "GotY" Halo

  1. Halo vs. "GotY" Halo

Basically, some friends and I were going to go hook up two Xboxes and battle it out with some Halo. Come the time to multi-play, "...Why isn't system link showing up?" We ended up calling Microsoft. It turns out that the "Game of the Year" edition of Halo isn't compatible with the original release of Halo. My friend is going to call Microsoft later and get a replacement copy.

Why the hell would the games not be compatible?! meh.

  2. Because that's what's gonna happen if microsoft takes over the console gaming industry. The Halo/GotY Halo is a teaser.

  3. What the hell is the "Game of the Year" edition of Halo?

  4. eh? whats that supposed to mean?

...anyway, thats pretty lame they arn't linkable. Its probably something really stupid concerning how the XBox looks at each disk, and sees that Halo =/= GoTY Halo on some sort of data label. The only thing I know of different on the GoTY is newer demo's.
You probably don't think I'm a very nice guy...

  5. Oh, ok. Just wanted to make sure MS didn't add anything, no matter how minute, before I make my Xbox purchase.

  6. I think it has to do with gamespy allowing people to play -online- rather then having to put up with not having xbox live ready. ...or the fact M$ didn't give a flying #!%& in the same way capcom treated us when they finally brought their SF games over.

Likely, M$ doesn't want this game hacked in any way, shape or form because of how it may step over copyright issues or something simular. That would be the best guess for taking that function out if that has anything to do with it. That also makes me wonder what capcom and other developers must think when just normal people were able to play their arcades on PC and add the feature for online play, I mean we finally get some Street Fighter online and stuff, but don't you think they are pissed to no-end over it? Kinda makes my day.

  7. Weird. I have GOTY Halo and didn't have any problems playing a LAN game with three other Xbox's running non GOTY Halo (this was on a routed DSL setup). It must only cause problems with a system link configuration?

  8. hmm, that is weird. Well, I'd rather keep it online anyways
don't wanna tangle with you, I'd rather tangle with him.
I think I'm gonna bash his head in...

  9. It's called "silent revisions" and all companies do this. Most videogame companies have had to update their products with new versions from time to time. This is really common on the PC but it looks like it might start to become more common on consoles as well. Don't be surprised if future games have similar problems.

Makes me glad I still love that most companies are still focused on the single player experience.

Exactly. This should surprise no one.
