Thread: Cube Bounty Hunter is fantastic!

  1. I had the PS2 version for a while (took it back for Rygar), I heard the Cube version was better, glad to see it was true. Might get it today if I can swing it. Don't got $50 but there are loads of cheap games at Eb and TRU is on their Holiday return policy

OK, Judge Dredd. I'll have to check this one out, too. My buddy picked this up the other day and has been gushing over it ever since. It is a very cool premise, however.

  3. I'm glad to read an enthusiastic report of SW Bounty Hunter. I'm done buying games until the new year, so I'll rent it some day to see if I'd like it. Not ever having a Nintendo console while it was still new (until now with my Cube), the last new and good SW game I recall was Star Wars in the 80's , the vector graphics game (all the home versions suck).

I just got Rogue Leader on Cube and it is fantastic, a little slice of Star Wars and thankfully based on the original trilogy. But I also want to try out Bounty Hunter and Jedi Knight II (Jedi Outcast? can't recall right now, not enough coffee in me).

One final comment on SW games -- the home Ep1 "Pod Racer" games weren't all that great IMO. The racing was good but not great, and the Ep1 cutscenes ruined the atmosphere. I didn't like the "Obi Wan" beatemup game either for the same basic ho-hum reason. AofClones seems to have given game designers better material to work with.

  4. The Clone Wars game was very fun, it plays allot like Battlezone, if it was not for the extreme slowdown this one could have been something really great.

  5. Well, I speak enthusiastically about most of the game too And even like many games most of people seem to dismiss.

As for Bounty Hunter, yeah I will be getting Cube version later this month. I played PS2 verse, and had some fun with it.

What's TRU's holiday return policy...? This sounds interesting...

As for Bounty Hunter, I don't own a GC yet, but the PS2 version is a shitload of fun. I can only imangine how much better it is on the Cube...

Some stores now do it, but most stores do it after Xmas for a week or 2. They give in store credit on unopened games. So say you got the EB and Buy Chase and S.Sam costing you $45. You can take both games to TRU, you can get $100 credit. Best to wait till after Xmas, I tried it today and they would not take the game back untill then, but I did it last week at another TRU and they did take the game. It depends on the person at the desk really. Just amke sure they have not drop the games yet before you do it. Check www.toysrus.com before you head out.

  8. Cube Bounty Hunter has a considerably smoother framerate, but the gameplay is still repetitive and boring. And the bounty hunting aspect is just broken.

"Oh, let's sit still and scan enemies for bounties while they all take potshots at me. Alright, got one. I lost half my life, but now I can unlock a piece of art in the gallery!"

The key to scanning for enemies in Bounty Hunter is actually to be stealthy. You can scan from a pretty big distance, so hanging back and scanning before you rush into a group of enemies should keep you out of trouble 80% of the time.

Another good tactic is to whipchord whatever you can and then scan them. I think these alternate methods are clever design choices that allow players to approach a situation in multiple ways. Which is always good.

  10. Hey, I like how my nick looks with a little flourish after it.

Your tips are valid, but it's still a very un-fun pastime since the scanning visor and whip cord are annoying to toggle to repeatedly. It might work if this were Star Wars Snap and you were supposed to stop every ten feet to pan around and take pictures. I don't find that gameplay dynamic very worthwhile, though. (Not that the ultra-generic enemy blasting part is either, but that's another story.)
