This might be the best year ever IMO(the year snes launched in Europe might take the cake though), Ico, Rez, Ikaruga, Dynasty Warriors 3,Halo etc have all rocked my world but if I where to chose one I'd go with Ikaruga.

You could certainly make a case. Even if you threw out all the original games, getting a new Castlevania, Contra, Suikoden, Mega Man, Resident Evil, Mario, Metroid, Kirby, Sonic, Shinobi, Ghouls N Ghosts (Maximo), etc. in the same year is amazing.

My five favorite games, read below to see why I didn't pick one -

Mega Man Battle Network 2 - GBA
Super Mario Sunshine - GC
Phantasy Star Online 1/2 - GC
Sky Gunner - PS2
Jet Set Radio Future - xbox

There were alot of games that I enjoyed this year, but none that I really felt put anything else to shame.

IMHO, this year had alot of really good games, but not one single "Game of the Year".

Metroid Prime.

I was shocked when I fired this up and I immediately felt like I was in the Metroid universe again. Tight gameplay, wonderfully executed.

As for Final Fantasy X, I loved that game but I'm not a magazine, I'm in real time and that was last year. But if it's elible for the print mags then it deserves mention for PS2.

I don't imagine a fighting game has a fighting chance on any platform, but VF4 deserves some kind of mention for PS2, be it goty or honorable mention. But there's stiff competition on this platform from Kingdom Hearts and Vice City [haven't played either so I can't comment on their deservedness].

Don't have an Xbox.

And I don't feel like I can really put anything forward for GBA since I haven't played the heck out of it much. The last thing that really got my attention was Super Mario World. I haven't had time for C:HoD, Metroid Fusion, Megaman Zero, ad nauseum...

These are all games released this year ,but the best game I've played this year is persona:eternal punishment which is a two year old game.
