The only "re-envisioning" I worry about is the shit done in movies like Jason Goes to Hell (as you mentioned), where Jason was turned into a killer worm. How fucking stupid is that?
As long as Jason is still a deranged maniac in a hockey mask killing teenagers and not turned into a cross-dressing republican truck-driving juggler, I'll be happy. If some small changes ensure a successful film and perhaps even a regular series again, I'm all for it.

Oh well. Dole is right, regardless. They are just silly movies, and darn entertaining ones at that. We jsut have to wait and see what this new one is all about before we condemn it. Granted, JGTH was a tremendous waste of time, the worst idea to further the character of Jason, and honestly the most amateuristic looking entry in the series. Best part? The ending.

There really hasn't been anything in the way of news for the new flick, but in the coming months at one of the big Fango cons coming up, Mark Wheaton(the writer) will be a guest so maybe some new stuff will leak out soon.
Also, I am gonna be recieving the Jason X Sideshow figure in the next couple of weeks. I got the semi goofy lookin' JGTH one back in December.
Also picked up the newest comics. Friday the 13th: Bloodbath #3 and Jason vs. Jason X #1

I'm interested in that one as well, in addition to the Part 4 one that was announced a short time ago.
Yeah, there's something not quite right about that one. I actually liked the design of Jason from that movie (it was the only thing I liked about that movie, actually), but the Sideshow figure is way too skinny. I know all the Sideshow Jasons are a tad on the slim side, but Kane/Jason was especially hulking in that movie and the figure just doesn't look right.I got the semi goofy lookin' JGTH one back in December.

I’ve got some terrible, terrible news from the grapevine regarding New Line Cinema's latest entry in the Friday the 13th series, which was slated for an October release, with Platinum Dunes attached to produce. During a conversation with an insider I was informed that the Friday the 13th quasi-remake might be dead in the water, “Sadly, it seems like things are at a standstill because of rights issues.” That’s as much as I know at the moment, so keep your eyes peeled here for (hopefully) an update soon. Jonathan Liebesman was set to direct off a script by Mark Wheaton. The remake would have incorporated components of the films, though it is known that Jason would have worn the mask and will kill. The setting would have been that of the first movie, Crystal Lake.
The part about it that doesn't make sense is the line about "rights issues."
New Line owns all the rights to the Friday the 13th series, including character names, settings and whatnot. The only rights they don't have is to the films and footage contained within.
