Super Tempo. Great Stuff.
I'm new to the Saturn Import scene. So far, the only 2 games I have are Capcom Generations 2 (GnG compilation) and Metal Slug.
What are some of the best 2D action/platormers that never made it stateside back in the day? I've played most every domestic 2D game on the Saturn (what little there was) with Clockwork Knight & Astal being two of my favorites.
Any games that have similar styles of play to the GnG, Strider, Astal, or Mega Man games, or is that asking too much...?
Super Tempo. Great Stuff.
Shinobi Legion is decent, if you look past the digitized graphics.
I have no idea what was released domestically but for 2D side scrollers, I loved Princess Crown, Silhouette Mirage and the Dungeons and Dragons collection (not quite platforming, though).
Keio Flying Squadron 2 (dunno the exact name). Import only, and quite a good platformer, from what I have heard...
Tryrush Deppy is ok...might be worth looking into.
He said imports.

oops...
You might want to try out Silloheute*sp?* mirrage , but its an acquired taste.Bubble symphony is also great if your into single screen platts.
For platformers per se, they've pretty much been mentioned:
Silhouette Mirage - Treasure platformer with some quirks. If you played the US version, Working Designs totally changed the game mechanics, so the original Jp (SS or PSX) plays differently.
Keio Yuugekitai Katsugekihen - Sequel? to Keio Flying Squadron. The first game came out here, and this sequel did not. One of the more popular Saturn imports, and the price has cooled down quite a bit. (Used to always go over $70-80)
There's also Psychic Assassin Taromaru, which is the Saturn's rarest game ever and a copy of this one will cost you over $200, if you can even find it. I don't know much about it, and I see opinions ranging from "horrible" to "well worth the price".
As for action... what kind of action are you looking for? Would shooters qualify? Would 2d fighting? Those are two genres the import Saturn library shine in. There's not a whole lot in Beat 'em ups though. D&D Collection is the only one that comes to mind.
I think people just like to justify the ridiculous amounts of money they spend on a single game. Taromaru is not in any way worth $200, and I don't think anyone truly believes that it is. It is actually a pretty decent game. I love the look of it, and it has solid, although very standard, gameplay. To me, $200 is entirely too much to pay for a slightly above average side-scroller. Maybe some people don't value $200 as high as I do, though. Radiant Silvergun this is not.
