Thread: Its wrong to dl and burn games but...

  1. I download some game soundtracks (and have no qualms aboot it) for one main reason: lack of availability.

Many awesome game music OST's (that I'd be happy to shell out thick coin for) simply aren't available anymore (Axelay, Contra Spirits).

  2. I never dl all the sound track, only the songs I like, I know is wrong but here in PR is hard to find places were you can buy Games/Anime Soundtracks

And that pretty much settles that.

What about "I couldn't have bought it anyway?"

To the last comment, everyone deserves entertainment...even poor college students. When I have no money, I'll still be trying to buy all of my various forms of entertainment legitimately, but I doubt that'll happen. I don't know if you've ever done it before, but having to eat Top Ramen for a week just to buy 1 new game is a pretty humbling experience. Done rambling, hehe.

    Exactly!

  6. It is always illegal. Legality doesn't always equate to moral correctness, though.

That said, I think it's wrong. Have I done it before? Yes. Will I do it again? Probably not. Not to mention the fact that "right" and "wrong" most certainly are never defined by any given individual's morals.

What he said. I've been chasing down S/Ts with a passion for the last few years.

Ask the people standing in Russian breadlines how well communism works...

  10. I've been ttrying to find the Symphonic Suite from Actraiser for years, and I've found only one available copy, which was selling for about $200. I'd rather just pirate the CD and then cut Yuzo a cheque myself. That way the artist actually gets payed, instead of some greedy bastard. The same goes for rare, out of print games.
One thing that nobody has mentioned yet is the fact game soundtracks are a secondary product to begin with. The artists have already made their money from the games themselves. And it's also worth noting that this music also serves as a form of promotion for the game/series that it comes from. Someone who has access to a soundtrack will be more likely to become a fan, and therefore more likely to buy the related games.
The idea that it's wrong to enjoy something through piracy that would otherwise be unavailable, simply because you have no 'license' to do so, is retarded. Is it wrong to watch movies that someone else rented, or to trade games with your friends? These types of activities take more revenue away from publishers than pirating out of print/unreleased media ever could.
Of course it's wrong to pirate something if you could just go to the store and buy it instead, but that's not always the case. I can't understand why some people are such hard-asses about it.

Isn't Russia a capitalist nation now? Besides, communism would probably work beautifully if the 'free' world quit attacking communist countries with bombs and economic sanctions and shit. The ruling class of the capitalist nations is the source of most of the world's problems right now. Well, them and the saucer people.
