Even back with games like Galaga and Pac-Man, to me it was always about completing levels and not about score.
yes
no
It's pretty much the reason I play games nowadays. The games I play are typically score-based, anyway. I'm always fighting against myself. Always looking to improve.
Even back with games like Galaga and Pac-Man, to me it was always about completing levels and not about score.
Praying for a Cosmic Fantasy Collection for PS2, Xbox and GameCube.
I always trying to improve in the games i play especially fighter like, DOA3, 3rd Strike etc, so trying to beat my high score or survival score always help me improve
It depends on the game.. both the genre and the individual game.. but I must admit that when the game is right I really enjoy going for score. Ikaruga is my best example of that this year.![]()
Do I play for score...
as opposed to what, "fun"?
*clicks Yes*
Score. Getting to the end is for babies.
This isn't as black and white a question as the "Poll-Master" has made it out to be.
It depends on the game. Arcade games = for Score (IE Bemani, Shooters, Fighting games with single player rating systems/points systems, etc.)
Console Adv., RPG, or anything else for that matter = Story/Graphic appeal (IE FFX, Sonic Adventure, Etc.)
And then there are they hybrids like Devil May Cry or Serious Sam and Halo. With these, you can play for both score and story (or whatever else you play for).
Keeping this all in mind, I voted yes.
I love playing for score. Especially in aracde machines...
Two of my friends and I once ruled the top scores on a Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 machine at a local arcade here in San Diego. We even had some people challenge us for score on that game and we would spend money just to knock other players out. The arcade eventually closed down, but a year later one of my friends said he found the machine in an arcade up in LA with our high scores still on top of the lists. Stuff like that makes playing for score a lot more special.
I play for fun, but I tend to play just to survive. So I
voted "no".
For shooting games, I've gained enough confidence to see
myself beating these games. Months ago, I played Giga Wing
2 for high scores because I thought I would never clear it.
Now that I've cleared Giga Wing 2 and Gunbird 2's first
round, I can see myself clearing other shooting games. I
consider scoring strategies only when surviving becomes too
difficult for me.
I play other games less rigorously, so I lack a scoring
frame of mind. Even in Tetris, I set up Tetrises only when
my field's free of holes.

That's just the response I expected. That's a small example of the stat tracking I've done. While replaying through Shenmue this week, I started to count out just how many conversations I'd been in per disc.
