    What a great movie.

    What I've seen lately:

Narc: Absoulutely incredibele-great acting, story, direction, and cinematography. The best movie I've seen an a while. If you like cop movies or crime dramas do not miss this.

Adaptation: Another awesome movie. By the same writers and director of Being John Malkovich. I normally don't like Nick Cage, but he's awesome in this film.

Star Trek: Nemesis: Great Sci-fi, excellent effects, and Patrick Stewart. 'nuff said.

Daredevil: Mediocre except for Colin Farrell. My least favorite superhero movie.

Down With Igby (DVD): A great dark comedy. Starring Keiran Culkin, Clarie Danes, and Jeff Goldblum, who are all very funny. This was a nice surprise.

Simone (DVD): It sucked. Neat premise, but lack of realism and bad pacing killed this movie.

LOTR: The Two Towers: A great movie except for Elijah Woods' "acting". He has the exact same expression on his face in 90% of his screen time. Some of the dialogue seemed forced, also. Overall, very good.

Darkness Falls: A lame, predictable horror movie with no redeeming value. Avoid it.

Final Destination 2: AWESOME death scenes and tons of gore. Other than that it was forgettable.

Taxi Driver (DVD): Excellent movie. Great plot, awesome dirction, and an unforgettable performance by DeNiro. Boring in spots, but awesome regardless.

  2. Wild Strawberries - Somewhat weak Bergman film, due to the initial narration that not only set up the entire movie, but knocked it all down. It was a also a poor quality video so I couldn't read a third of the subtitles and the picture quality was rather fuzzy. (B)

Andrei Rublev - I'm pretty indifferent to epics but Tarkovsky works with the genre pretty well and is the most accessible of his films I've seen. Being an epic, dealing with religious elements, and an obvious big budget (along with bombastic score), the movie could've been steeped in sentimentality but Tarkovsky's trademark lingering camera does much to narcoticize the viewer and let them take in the glorious black and white. (A-)

Duel - Sharp, tightly-focused, and uses the simplicity of the plot much to its advantage. Ah, young Spielberg. If only we could have you back. (B+)

  3. The Deer Hunter - A 3 hour film that could have easily fit into 2 hours or less, so it goes without saying that it's unnecessarily long-winded at points, like the hour to hour and a half leading into the thick of things. Overall good.

Akira - Unlike 98% of videogame fans, I haven't seen much anime. Like the other anime I've seen, I found the art and style much more interesting than the story, which started off promising but got really weird (good and bad) towards the end ("birth of the universe," for one thing). Regardless, definitely an enjoyable watch.

Dog Day Afternoon - It seemed a little too long for the amount of time spent inside of a bank. Without Pacino, it wouldn't be near as enjoyable. The police chief also played a good role as he failed in getting Pacino's character to cooperate.

American History X - Nothing to say. Good movie.

Goodfellas - By the time I got to the last 20 minutes, I realized I had seen it on TV, so that kind of sucked the fun out of the end for me. Good movie anyways.

Apocalypse Now Redux - Nice, creepy cross between Heart of Darkness and the usual Vietnam film. A little confusing, but that adds to it.

  4. JSA - Joint Security Area - Excellent Korean military drama. After the accident on North and South Korean border leaves 2 Soldiers dead, and 2 wounded, special Swiss investigator brought in, to find out what actually happen. As as she digs deeper and deeper into the facts, the story of tragic friendship between North and South soldiers surfaces. Very good story and acting, nice cinematography, and gripping and at the same time very sad story. Really enjoyed it.

  5. China Syndrome - A lot of boring, a little suspense. Odds are, if I can play a videogame while listening to the dialogue and have a perfect grasp of the movie, it could've used a little something extra.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - A stripped down version of the book, but it got the point across. Just as I expected it to be.

  6. Gangs of New York - a great movie. I was expecting it to be much shitter, but it was nice. 8/10

  7. Ha, Had a great evening of Bad movies, last night.

Infested - If you love ridiculously stupid horror films, this one would be a great choice. It started well, with group of ex-high school friends from 80s, coming back to sort of renunion, after one of their friends dies. And then they find themselves under attack of mutan flies, that swarm you, get inside your body and turn you into a zombie. It had few nice gore moments, but the rest was ridiculous acting, extrememly bad CGI fly fx, and bad, bad, bad dialog and situations. Wait till you see zombies dance to 80s music, and heroes using Stereo speakers to kill the flies !!! It also had Ex- Pink Power Ranger as main heroine, too bad she wasnt topless, even in shower scene.

Next it was newest Steven Seagal film:

The Foreigner. While not as dreadful as his The Ticker, it still a bad movie. The plot is very incomprehensible, with Seagal playing CIA agent in Europe, that has a mission to deliver a SPECIAL PACKAGE, and some mysterious men are trying to kill him for that. That pretty much all I could understand of the plot, which had double cross after double cross after double cross. Action scenes were pretty un-exciting, and Seagal only used little bit of his fighting skills, and relied mostly on gun action. He didnt look too fat though, but maybe it was because all the heavy coats and jackets he wore While not as bad as Van Damme European Adventure - Derailed, Foreigner is a whacked out, weird action movie.

  8. Pretty busy movies weekend for me Here is what I watched:

Session 9 - Finally was able to pick up this film, and it was GOOD. Very disturbing tale of clean up crew at old, abandoned mental hospital, and the effect the stress and disturbing locations take on men. Lots of creepy moments, and final revalation was indeed very disturbing.

Another Heaven - Pretty good Japanese horror/crime film in style of Fallen. 2 detectives investigate the series of bizzare murders, and further they get more clues point out the the murdered is not very human. Some pretty cool scenes, lots of gory details, since the killer has the tendency of taking its victims brains out their heads, and cook them, and good direction. I enjoyed it alot.

On the Run - HK Crime drama, starring Yuen Biao, in not very typical role for him. He plays police detective, who's ex-wife gets killed by a hired killer, and he is framed by her murder, but the group of corrupt cops, she was investgating. On the run from both police and bad guys, Biao teams up with the killer, who is also on the death list of her employers, and they prepare for some payback. Very sad and tragic film. Lots of very gory shootouts too.

Escaflowne the Movie - Pretty good Anime film. Interesting story, great animation, and some pretty cool action scenes, especially the opening sword fight.

  9. RISE THREAD!!!

Amelie - A great movie, though a little too arty for my taste. 7/10

Imposter - A decent attempt at a sci-fi thriller. In a very similar vein to Blade Runner. 6/20

The Transporter - This movie is great. Its an easy to watch awesome action movie which doesn't require any thinking what so ever. 7/10

  10. Is The Transporter on video now?

I watched Death to Smoochie last week and liked it. Very weird movie, but a fantastic idea none the less. I'm a fan of Ed Norton and Robin Williams was an absolute nut case in this one. Second movie in recent years that I liked him in (the other being Insomnia). I'm not sure if I like Danny Devito as a director, but the cinematography is something else. More colors than should be possible and the lighting just makes it look more surreal.
