Nup. My friend has a pirate copy of the DVD they use to judge at the oscars or something.

  2. Ha, The Transporter's Oscar tape

Anyway, Its been a while I posted here so here are some new movie quotes from me

Sasquatch(The Untold) - After a plane carrying the daughter of Millionear owner of BioTech Corporation crashes in the mountain wilderness, her father played by Lance Henriksen organizes search party(and might have some alterior motives as well). But once in the forest they discover some other malevolent presence there. One, very pissed off yeti. Now can the team get out of the woods alive? Pretty boring horror film, with only saving grace being presense of Lance Henriksen(and the reason I watched this movie). Director goes overboard with Sasquawah View Camera, and film lacks gore, suspense or any tension. For LH die hard fans like me only !

Piniata Survival Island - What do you get if you mix idea of reality show/game with film about Evil Demonic Piniata? You get this production A group of college students on tropical island ready for their SpringBreak games and partying. But after the couple of stoners crack open an ancient piniata that contains evil spirits, all hell breaks loose. Some nice and gory moments(head being split open by showel, guys nuts being ripped out by angry piniata, etc), lots of very stupid situations and funny scenes. Worth a look.

Gun Crazy - Japanese entry into Girls with Guns genre. Modern take on the Wester story about the lone bounty hunter who comes to lawless town under the rule of rutless criminal and his gang. Lots of gory and fun shootouts. While it doenst have any original ideas, the exectution is enjoyable.

Yesterday - Pretty cool Korean scifi/action/thriller - The Special Police team is following the deadly killer who is assasinating the former scientiest who worked on secret goverment project 30 years ago. Daughter of one of the scienties(who is criminal psycologist) joins the team to help to track and understand the killer. High production values, some pretty exciting action sequences, alot of good old blood and gore and interesting story.

  3. Brother - My first Beat Takeshi film, and boy was it good. It really lived up to the hype and then some. I want to see more now. A gritty and hard hitting drama about organised crime. No stupid holliwood lines or ridiculous action scenes, it was all as real as it gets, and the story line was great. 9.5/10

  4. Well, I thought that Brother was just Ok. Kitano was good as usual, but storyline was a bit off, and dragged a bit. Decent Kitano film, but not one of his best.

  5. The 25th Hour

    - Liked it. Enjoyable characters. Thought-provoking dialogue. Interesting build-up of the story.

Anyone notice all the reflections in terms of visual imagery?

The Last Temptation of Christ - At first I was like "Willam Dafoe as Jesus?" but he does a good job and this movie is worth seeing.

    Ghost World - Interesting. Different.

Bringing Down the House - Funny. Eugene Levy always entertains me.

Brotherhood of the Wolf - I loved this one.

The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys - It's a good movie that pulls off being funny and serious.

Spider - Weird Cronenberg stuff. I liked it.

Well... confusing is the whole damn point of the movie. Redux is not as good as the original, although I did get a chance to see Redux on the big screen, and the experience of Apocalypse Now (which is easily among the world's top films) was incredible. There are some movies that were just meant for the big screen, and that is one of them.

Since Ive nothing to do for a few days, I am watching a LOT of movies. Im already up to three, and it will probably clock in the double digits by the time Im done. Ill post impressions of them all soon!

I dont understand all The One hate. Why? It never pretended to be anything other than action film. It has cool action, fx and storyline is not that bad. Jet Li was great in it. Sure its different from his HK films, and yes there are plenty of CGI fx in it, but thats what I liked about it. It different.
Despair... so you dont like wire-fighting in movies, but you like fakeass CG shit? Cmon now... I mean... youre entitled to your opinions, but I cant understand why someone would like the fake CG junk in The One over Crouching Tiger's (or any other wuxia film) fighting... note Im not saying that you liked The One more than CTHD, but I wonder why you would like CG over wires. I know you posted this a while ago but it kinda puzzled me (plus I never read through this thread until like last night). For the record I hate The One and all of Jet Li's American movies except for Kiss of the Dragon, which was decent enough for me to see twice.

  8. I feel like doing a great big movie run, but I think I've rented all of the good movies at my local video shop. I'm gonna have to sign up somewhere else I think...

Jackass: the movie - This kind of low brow humour really cracks me up. The best part was the airhorn at the golf course . It's not really a movie as such and more of an extended, ruder episode. 5/10

  9. DreamCatcher - I thought it was very good horror/thriller combo of the film. Some very tense scenes of heroes fighting alien menace, some very cool alien fx, few moments of good old gore(but nothing excessive), good actor performances and very good cinematography. Plus amazingly animated Animatrix short - Last Flight of Osiris.

Last Witness - Korean Drama/Cop movie about the investigation of the murder of the old man, that has ties to the events of the day of Korean War. I thought it was a veery good film, and really enjoyed how it combined elements of cop/crime film(investigation of the murder in present day), war drama(events during period after Korean War) and sad love story(love story between people separated by war and later by jail). High production values, interesting and touching story, some nice action sequences, and good direction.

  10. Here's a wrap: five movies I've seen recently (as in, the past three days). Rated in the standard 1-4 way that films are rated.

Adaptation - This movie is VERY clever. Its like watching a TV show of a guy watching a TV show of a guy watching a TV show of a guy... you get the drift. What makes it especially good is that a lot of the stuff is real... Brian McKee, the Orchid Thief, etc. This would be a four-starrer for sure, if it didn't feel overly long. Not quite as entertaining as Being John Malkovich, and not quite as clever, but still pretty fucking good. Rating: *** 1/2

Almost Famous - If Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is a great film from a horrible-reality point of view, Almost Famous is a great film from a this-is-lovely point of view. A really great film. Great camerawork, solid acting, and a good script. It is one of those films that has that intangible that you can't really put your finger on... you wonder why you like it so much, all you know is that you do. Rating: ****

Bowling for Columbine - I wrote about this in its thread. Its entertaining, I guess, but Moore doesn't really propose solutions. He just rants, makes fun of America, shoots a few guns, etc. There are a few really good segments, and truth be told, they are enough to make it worthwhile, but the rest of it is shady. When you factor Moore's blatant lies... it's just weird that Moore thinks we are so dumb that we can't catch on to the fact that Heston wears a totally different suit for "Over my cold dead hands" than he does about four seconds later in the film (they are completely different speeches, Moore edited them together to make it look like Heston was acting defiant after Columbine)... you just wonder. A little bit more honesty and less manipulating/lying would've made this documentary Oscar-worthy... oh wait. Rating: **

Rushmore - This movie is okay, but it feels like a less refined version of Royal Tennenbaums... well, that's what it is, I guess. A good movie, good performance by Bill Murray, but nothing I would ever see again. And I dont know about you guys, but I thought the girl that played Margaret Yang was pretty cute. Rating: ** 1/2

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance - Oh my goodness. This movie is incredible. It really is unbelievable. Everybody MUST see this movie, at least once... hell, you could probably only take it once. It's so grim, so depressing, and so horribly awful from a "my god, did that just happen?"... it's hard to believe. As a fan of dramas above all else, take it from me - it's hard to top this in so many ways. I know a lot of people say the last half hour is what makes this movie, but I don't agree... Rating: ****
