Thread: Movies you have seen lately

  1. Porco Rosso- Miyazaki film from 92 about a pig-man who flys a cool sea plane in the Adriatic sea around the 1920's. I loved it, while its not quit as good as Cagliostro or Mononoke, that doesn't mean its not an incredible film. -9

Versus- Highly entertaining Japanese movie that starts out as a samurai movie, then turns into a yakuza film, then into a zombie movie then just keeps giving. Good innovations on the zombie movie, and with a good plot and acting for this type of movie. Had some slow parts towards the end, though. -8

Volcano High- Bleh. Lots of showy style, but hardly any substance or innovation. Has bits of cool parts (especially the first few mintues), but overall I was let down with this movie. -5

Police Story- KFC cinema needs to its act together. Sometimes they give a perfect 5 in entertainment to great fliks like Shaolin Soccer or Iron Monkey, and sometimes they hype movies like this one. When Chan gets his fu on its great, and there are some nice comedy and action bits here and there, but the movie is mainly your average cop flik. -6

  2. In the Mood - I love movies that were made in the 80's.
    Sonny Wisecarver...is the man.

Then I got a Jag, took it home, and something seemed... not right.

  3. Come on Green. Police Story is a classic Jackie film. Sure, Maybe it looks average now days, but it considered one of Jackie best, and well known films.

Yeah, I was talking about Versus when it was just coming out, and I glad some people here gave it a try. Currently crew is working on Samurai Action film, and also recently finished their new project Alive.

I liked Whasango(Volcano High). Sure its more style over substance, but I enjoyed visual fx, final battle was pretty cool, and its almost Live Action Anime style was a nice touch. Just dont expect any real fighting, or some deep story here

  4. I got another DVD Freedom Pass from BlockBuster so I have a lot of movies to mention.

Death to Smootchie: Excellent. Nortan was great, and Williams was very funny. My favorite line:

Reporter: What about the rumors about you being mentally unstable?
Williams: WHO THE FUCK SAID THAT!?!?!?!

Osmosis Jones: Really well done animated movie, with funny live action scenes staring Bill Murray.

    Titan A.E: Pretty average.

Bringing out the Dead: Interesting movie about a Paramedic loosing his mind, but in the end it feels like nothing is accomplished.

Brotherhood of the Wolf: Decent french action film. Beautiful cinematography though.

Enemy at the Gates: Very cool WWII film about dueling snipers.

Blade 2: Just as fun as the first time I saw in the theatres. Great movie.

How High: Unfunny comedy, but I like Redman and Method Man, so they alone keep it from becoming total shit.

    More to come.

  5. I jusyt saw Signs. The worst movie I have ever seen. The plot ws stupid and in no way original. For once I would like to see an interesting alien movie that hasn't been done before.

  6. I loved Signs. Kickass movie, and better than a majority of the alien films that have come out in the last couple years, and one of the movies of 2002 IMO. If it's the worst movie you have ever seen, well, you must not watch that many movies, or you have managed to avoid 99% of the cinematic shit that is out there. Go rent The Alien Dead then tell me about a shitty alien movie, assuming you don't kill yourself after watching it.

  7. No I watch plenty of movies. I just don't see what was so great. Im not saying this to sound like an ass, I'm just interested in hearing what was so good about it?

  8. The subject matter is a personal favorite of mine so naturally I am taken by this kind of movie. I liked how we never see what's going on in the outside world, we just see the invasion from one family's eyes. Everything we learn about the invasion is the same stuff they learn from seeing it on TV or hearing it on the radio, not from action scenes with skyscrapers exploding and groups of people running in horror. I thought that was pretty cool.

  9. Ok, I can understand how from that point of view you can like it. I just found it to be another alien movie, not my favorite genre.

  10. i didn't think signs was all that great either...

i enjoyed it, but it wasn't anywhere near "movie-of-the-year" calibur

    the ending was ass...
