Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicle

Crystal Chronicle gets some more media exploitation, as well as as new details concerning gameplay and story.

Cronicle centers around a world that is trapped in a poisonous cloud, with a sacred crystal being the only power that keeps the gas from overtaking all life. The crystal's power is not eternal though, and the only way to recharge it is through the use of mana water. Things are said to start in a village where 4 friends venture out to find mana water, replenish the crystal's strength, and give a temporary peace to the land once more.

What's odd is this idea ties right into gameplay. Whenever the team is out in the world, they need a 'crystal cage' to protect them from the dangerous gas. The cage also requires mana water to keep its strength up, which dwindles over time and can even be used for things like magic spells. With such a pressured mind-set, it's only natural to make this game an action-oriented RPG - a first in the Final Fantasy world. Another first is the inclusion of GBA connectivity, where gamers can use the handheld to view things such as a map and stats.

This game is looking pretty damn cool. I have always wanted an action-based Final Fantasy spinoff, and the art style looks kinda old school. Let's hope it lives up to its potential.
