Not at all - it was the first (and as near as I can tell, only) game to make hand to hand combat work in first person. The mind-jacking gimmick added some nice replayability and depth to the proceedings. The music wasn't bad either, and some of the enemies had some pretty cool patterns to defeat. It wasn't top 10 on DC or anything, but I think the game had alot going for it, and I'm not sure why it recieves some of the negative attention it does.

I think the melee combat in games like Shadow Warrior was done much better although Maken gets props for having the enemies melee attack you back. Maken is fairly innovative; I just didn't find it much fun.

  3. It was one of the 3 Megami Tensei games brought over to the US , if anyone cares.

I don't think it's related to SMT, it just shares the same designers and artist.

  5. Actually , im not sure . I dont remember anything about the plot at all , was it about people using computers to hack devils , if so then its part of the series.

  6. Actually, if you want to get really technical, none of the MegaTen games ever made it to the US. The Persona series is a spinoff, the Laverne and Shirley to MegaTen's Happy Days.

  7. There only are 3 pure Megaten games.1, 2, and 9. All of the others(Soul Hackers, Persona, Another Bible, Devil Kids, Maken?) are spin offs. A fourth game is coming next year.

  8. I loved the Dreamcast Maken looks awesome in VGA too , but Shao does take away it's unique 1st person view but it might be cool too. Xengamers covered this game a good amount but I thought it would make as US release.
