You planning on joining up or something? Go marines if you are.
Curious.
Branch, length of time in, Job (if you can tell), time left, all that.

I'm considering many things. Joining the Army in the next few months for 4 years is one of them.
I was in the army for about a month. Long story short, after about an hour after arriving, I knew I could simply not be there. Being in fine physical condition, my only recourse was hyperbole, and I was discharged with a Chapter 5: Personality Disorder....which is a compliment, in a way, since I was only going for a Chapter 11: Inability to Adapt to a Military Environment.
I'm not trying to bash the military, but, I'm a very individual, creative person, and the army and I agreed there was no place for me there.

Think about going into the reserves, you can get your college education paid that way. And if you go into ROTC you get many other benefits. If you are going to do it, do it right and research all your options.
Personally if I was going to join up and knowing that I could be put into potential danger in a conflict somewhere I would pick the branch that would train you the hardest and give you the best chance to come out alive. The marines have a specific focus and do not allow things like male/female segregated training and lowered standards which affects you as a soldier both mentally and physically.
I myself did not sign up, my main reason being my complete distrust of the then current commander in chief Bill Clinton. He seemed to have little to no knowledge of the real mission and duty of the military and instead involved us in pointless police actions or "humanitarian" missions that did more harm than good. I would feel good about serving under a commander and chief like Bush though. He seems to respect the military and allows them the ability to do their jobs without interfering.
Whatever you decide to do, good luck! You certainly have my respect and support.

Good reply. Quite interesting.
The bottom line for me is, I'm getting older, I've never done it, and I'm thinking the US needs people these days, what with all the wars and rumors of wars and such.
Navy and Air Force just don't seem to have the interest to me, no disrespect to anyone in those branches, you get props from me if you're in any branch.
Time to check the options.
I have to agree here. I too have been toying with the idea of the military, and if I were to join I think just about the only thing I could see myself doing is joining the Rangers. Sure it is extremely difficult to get into and I've heard Ranger school is 62 days of pure hell, but if you are going to do such a life-altering thing as joining the Army you may as well do it right.Personally if I was going to join up and knowing that I could be put into potential danger in a conflict somewhere I would pick the branch that would train you the hardest and give you the best chance to come out alive. Now I actually don't see myself ever actually joining, but it's not like college is doing anything for me, so I dunno...
I don't know about the marines, but I do know that alot of branches do have lower standards for woman to make it in.Originally posted by teenwolf The marines have a specific focus and do not allow things like male/female segregated training and lowered standards which affects you as a soldier both mentally and physically.
My brother joined the Navy Sea Bees reserves about a year ago, and it's been pretty easy for him so far. He had 2 weeks of boot camp this summer, and since then, has war games (which is reason enough for me to want to join, it's basically advanced laser tag 24 hours a day.)one weekend per month. However, there is about a 90% chance that he will be called to the Persian Gulf. If you joined, however, chances are you wouldn't have to go on active duty for a long time, since you have to complete boot camp and training before being called for active duty. Anyways, the reserves are the way to go.

Been in the Air Force for 3 and 1/2 years now. I'm reenlisting and doing a full 20 year stint.
It's interesting. The hardest part is being away from your family for 90 days or more at at time. Even so, the AF for me is the only way to fly. Also, I respect the Army and Marines most of all. They do the real dirty work.
Educational benefits are thing to go for. Also, you make good money when you go TDY ( tour of duty ).![]()
