Thread: New EGM Scores!

  1. I like to see diversity of opinion. That's the main advantage of the multiple-review system they use. It's true that they could go for a less jokey tone (I wouldn't mind), but that's the voice they're going for.

At least it shows different tastes. I'd hate to see them average their scores or some shit. Let me give you an example. MechDeus gave Mario Sunshine an A, which is likely a 9.5 if we worked for EGM. I would have the given the game a B-, which would be an 8. It's not that extreme of a difference, but it is a substantial one for people who can only afford one new game or something.

  3. Same here. In fact, I admire a reviewer who's got the guts to move away from the pack and give a score wildly divergent from others. The EGM reviews for Stuntman and Gunvalkyrie are two good examples of this.

  4. Nothing wrong with somebody having a different opinion of a game. Hell, I love REZ, but I'm sure I can find just as many people, who don't get it, or just don't like quirky games.

I'm glad to see that EGM finally gave Skies of Arcadia it's props. Did Final Fantasy X even get scores as high as that? Did Sega fix the amount of random attacks, because if there was any flaw I could find to SOA it was the random battles.

um didnt the dreamcast version get just as high of scores ???

  6. I'm all for different opinions too, but the actual text of the EGM reviews don't justify the scores, so scores that are so different aren't properly explained.

They were just a little bit lower. I recall one reviewer giving the game an 8.5 . I beleive the game recieved a silver rating, for the DC.

  8. Well.. I don't care much for EGM... but I am happy to see Skies get such a nice score.

I am a bit perturbed by the score .hack got though (especially the 6).. because I have been looking forward to it.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. They always say what they do or don't like about something; what else do they have to do to justify their scores? As for varying scores, what on earth would be the point of having multiple reviewers if they didn't disagree occasionally?

And the Dreamcast Skies of Arcadia was game of the month when it was released.

Well with the large versions of their reviews it's usually not a problem, but their small reviews are always very vague and general. And it's not an occasional instance when they disagree so feverishly, they do it very often.
