Other than the obvious choices, I recommend Sky Gunner. A quirky shooter and damn fun.
I also second ICO.
Wipeout Fusion and Maximo are good. Cheap too.
Stuntman is also a lot of fun. Hard, but fun.

Heh... Oddly, I just sold mine off. Getting a new tranny for my car coupled with my last child support payment set me back about a hundred too short to go pick up the little guy, so I had a choice to make...
It was a tearful goodbye. We didn't spend too much time together anymore, but it was sad knowing she wouldn't be there if I ever just needed that VF4 fix, wanted to play Socom, what have you. In the end, we decided that we could still keep in touch. I'd make the trip over to a friends house every so often, and we would see each other then. Maybe even break out that VF4, Rez, Kingdom Hearts or even Tony Hawk 4 for old time's sake... Heck, I think we even talked about Shinobi, GT3 and Capcom vs SNK 2. But you know how these things are, YAWA. Whenever the time is taken to say things like that, you rarely see each other again.. Hell, if ever.
Screw it... I'm coming over your house.
So I forced my hands in my pockets and felt with my thumbs and gallantly handed her my very last piece of gum.
frequency is excellent, and cheap too. klonoa 2 and rez are also wonderful, but all these games have been mentioned already.
one game i love that doesn't get too much attention here is ssx tricky. if you can get past the TOTALLY XTREME character designs and celebrity voices, you'll find an amazing racing game. fantastic level design and sound work. good replay value too.
edit: i can't belive i forgot ico! absolutely sublime game, and very much unlike anything else out there.
I recommend:
Drakan- Awesome adventure game kind of similar to Draconus but I'd even say better. It plays alot like Zelda but you also have a kickass dragon friend and you can customize your armor/weapons and such like Record Of Lodoss War on Dreamcast. Should be at a nice 20 bucks right now.
Sled Storm- Really fun sled game, sort of a sequel to the PSone version I guess but I never played it. It's a EA BIG title but it focuses more on the courses, it's a challenging game but rewarding once you get the feel of the courses.
SSX Tricky- previous poster said it and I'll say it again, great racing game. Still has some amazing graphics and fantastic sound. It never gets old really because you can try to max out your racer in different aspects using different racing venues. Personalities aren't really that annoying, you can do far worse(look up Freekstyle).
Rez- I'm sure almost everyone here loves this game and I do too. If you've ever seen the Lawnmower man, think of that cool as hell VR shit that was in it and you almost have the concept of the game. It's a fun rail shooter that's very unique in visual representation and deserves any award it receives in this area.
I'd like to second Stuntman. My favorite PS2 game of them all. You also must check out Contra, and if you don't have an Xbox, Silent Hill 2.

Yeah, the Silent Hill 2: GH is nice.
Virtua Fighter 4.
I really like Suikoden III, but I don't know that many agree with me.![]()
