Games with one huge flaw that hold it back from greatness

You know, those games where you WANT to love them, but they possess this one, glaring flaw that you can't help but dislike it? My pick is Shinobi: yes, it's a good game, but the controls are really, really dodgy. It causes frustration when there doesn't need to be. The other aspects are pretty well done, but the control nearly ruins it all.

  2. i remember Ultima IX: Ascension being hailed by almost every review as the best game ever... had it not been riddled with horrible game-ending bugs

  3. How about a huge flaw that simply leaves it as great, rather than classic? If that's the case I nominate Skullmonkeys. There's absolutely no reason not to have had memory card support in it. A world map so you could redo levels would have been nice, and I'd have enjoyed redoing levels to unlock all the paths through the games, but there was absolutely no excuse for a password-only system.

Still one of my favorites, though.

  4. SmackDown 4's lack of title defenses in the exhibition mode keep it from being the premiere wrestling game out there.

  5. DMC. Like I really need to say what.

If GTA3 had a wonderful gun combat system it would be twice as good, easily.

I agree; the camera really needed work(especially against boss battles like Griffon). Hopefully, DMC2 gets it right.

  7. Great just what I wanted to hear, I got DMC and J&D at christmas and only played a few minutes of DMC so I havent gotten a full impression.

Bad cameras is one thing I can hardly deal with..

Eh...the only camera problems I had were with figthing Nightmare, simply because you could get behind him sometimes, and not see that huge impaling attack he'd do (which pretty much kills you on the harder difficulties). 'course, I only beat it on hard, and never DMD mode, so maybe the camera's more important then. Still, I'd consider it a classic.

-oh, for the topic: Wave Race: Blue Storm really needed a multi-player championship mode, or at least much more to unlock. Amazing foundation of a game with little to no extras.

    Blasphemy!!!

Passwords never bothered me, but for some people it's a hastle. I can dig that.

My vote goes to XBOX Wreckless. The game was so beautiful and played so well. I really wanted to like it, but the damn time limits and lack of any kind of exploration mode killed it for me.

  10. Shinobi: Overworks made the every-3D-ninja-game-should-be-like-this template but they really dropped the ball on level design.

Rygar: Why isn't there any compensation for high combos? It would've been so simple to add something...

    Sub Rebellion: Needs checkpoints.
