Thread: J! E! T! S! Jets Jets Jets!!!

  1. The game that made me a football fan, and the first game I ever really watched, was the Giants-Bills super bowl. Forget exactly what year that was, but I remember a last second field goal from the Giants for the win.

You remember a last second miss from the Bills.

Scott Norwood later became the basis for Ace Ventura's Ray Finkel.

Ditto man. Imagine how I felt, the only Indy fan in all of NYC going to school today..
However, I didn't think they deserved to be there, because of, I didn't get too pissed about them losing. However, the really were unable to play in Giants Stadium, that place is such crap.

  4. Perhaps, but the Jets didn't have magic earth-drying shoes, and they still scored 41 more points than the Colts on the same field.

Indianapolis is simply not a playoff caliber team. It's a damn miracle they had as good a season as they did.

Of course they deserved to be there. They were 10-6, had the 3rd best record in the AFC, and upgraded their defense (which was necessary based on the fact that their offense was terrible compared to past years) to 8th overall. However, I admit that both they and the Packers acted as if they did not belong based upon their 1st round performances.

The Jets do play 10 home games a year on that field. But, I'm not gonna blame the Colts performance on the field. As for Indy not being a playoff calibur team, I disagree. Any team that makes it into the playoffs is more deserving than those who don't. Miami, Denver, New England, San Diego, they all managed to not make it and I can recall many individuals singing high praises about them.

10/6 CINCINNATI BENGALS W 28 - 21 - At least they beat them this time

    11/17 DALLAS COWBOYS W 20 - 3 - *gasp* The cowboys!

    12/1 HOUSTON TEXANS W 19 - 3 - Well, at least we can
    Beat them..
    12/29 JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS W 20 - 13 - tsk tsk

Ahem, what did you say? There you go, 6 of their wins against very easy teams. All of their losses were against the good teams, and only 2 wins against teams above .500. Now don't tell me they deserved to be there, even if I am a Colts fan.

  7. Bottom line is they did what they had to do to make the playoffs. They did not make their schedule, the NFL does. They did what they had to do. Based upon the rules of the NFL they were good enough to be seeded 5th out of 16 teams in the AFC. They deserved to be there. And, even with some lower quality teams on that schedule, I'd venture to say their strength of schedule was, at worst, middle of the pack.

Anyhow, it's pointless to argue. You're going to believe what you want and I will believe what I want. But, the fact remains the Colts made the playoffs without the aid of anyone else. Have they had better teams in recent years? Yes. Were they completely outplayed by just about everyone the last month of the season? Yes. Did they embarrass their fans with the loss to the Jets? Yes. But at least they earned the right to be there.

Um..when? I've been a Colts fan for 3 years now, and they've sucked every one.

They did go 13-3 and win the AFC East (arguably the toughest division in the AFC over the past decade...with exception to the AFC West this year) 3 years ago, 9-7 the following year, 6-10 last year, and 10-6 this year. And 2 of the last 3 playoff appearances have been, at the very least, hard fought. Now, in order to become one of THE BEST teams in the NFL, they must find the offense they've had over the previous 3 years (top 3) and combine that with a similar, but more aggressive, defense from this year. Oh yeah, and WIN some playoff games.

  10. The Colt's problem is that they have a ton of talent packed into the high-profile offensive positions but weak lines on both sides. If they don't shape up in the trenches, they'll never advance far into the playoffs.

I'm not saying the Colts are a bad team, but they certainly overachieved. Given their level of talent, they really had no business doing better than 7-9, but hats have to come off to Tony Dungy (and the Texans and Jaguars) for their record.

But swamp or no swamp, they really didn't stand a chance against the Jets. Play that game in Indy, and the Jets win by 14 instead of 41.
