Thread: Arcade Cabinet Question

  1. Arcade Cabinet Question

I have a chance to buy a semi-working Discs of Tron cabinet from a co-worker. I say semi-working, because it will work every so often, but not usually. It seems to have a problem with the power supply, or something else electrical. What I'm wondering, is whether or not it's worth the 50 bucks she wants for it, if it's going to cost me 500 to get it fully funcional. I don't remember playing the game back in the day either, so I don't even know if it's fun. Any feedback is appreciated.

  2. for 50, do it for sure.

Is that 500 to get it working a solid number?

The game is you, on a disc, agianst another, in the background.

It's like that scene in the beginning of Tron, where Flynn goes against the fat guy with the Hanball/Lacrosse of sorts.

You move the stick around, turn the dail to select throwing angle and then shoot your disc. I think if you miss them, then a ring of your platform disappears, though I'm not sure on that one.

    In short, do it.

  3. Nah, the 500 is just a number, I honestly have no idea how much it would cost, since my knowledge of arcade cabinets and their working parts is shit. I wouldn't even know how to go about fixing it if I did buy it.

  4. If the cab itself and the monitor are in good shape then its worth 50 bucks right there.

Also im friends with a BIG time collector of arcade classics so I might be able to hook you up with him on the psu...

He has like 200+ cabs in his own personal collection.

  5. $50? If it wasn't working at all, I would buy it for that much.

  6. As for the actual game... Discs of Tron kicks ass. I'd get it.

  7. Don't hesitate.

This was one of my favorites in the environmental cabinet version, where you stand on top of a disc on the floor of the machine. Sark's trash talk is a nice touch in this... some of his best stuff includes "Had enough?", "You'll regret this!", and some rather derisive laughter if he's really having his way with you. In some later levels, there are barriers you have to shoot around by pulling up or pushing down on the knob.

If it's working part of the time, the problem may be something small. I don't think you'll need $500 to fix it- I'd reckon it may be closer to $100.

    For $50?

That should be a no brainer. Get it.

  9. Well, I found out she lives like 2 blocks from me, so it seems like I might as well do it. That 2 blocks makes hauling a 600 pound cabinet seem less miserable. And for the record, it is the enviornmental cabinet.

Now, how could I go about fixing it, or getting it fixed? Any suggestions?

EDIT: I found out it did work previously, but doesn't at all now. She feels it may have been a power surge, or something similar. They had an electrician friend fix it and clean it about 2 months ago before it went out.

Go to an arcade in your area (if any even exist) and find out who services their machines.

    Get that persons number.
