  2. Well, okay, I hope it's completely sprite based, but this is reality we're talking about.
After playing so much HoD and SotN recently, I hope so too. So much beautiful stuff they could do, especially if they actually invested the time to do it all proper.

    But they won't. *begins prayer*

    I completely misread that.

  3. it'd be cool if there was a castlevania game where you played dracula and you had to go to the belmonts house and kill them. you could like....look in the kitchen....the breakfast nook, the bathroom....an' there'd be a teleporter from the 2nd bathroom to.....like.....the living room.

  4. Whoa a gba sequel so ealry after hod? Shouldn't konami be working on a whole new contra game for gba? (enough with the legacy snes and megadrive code. Build this from the ground up.)

I would rather they balance out their franchises a little. Give equal treatment to contra and vania.

Contra's dead. Keep bringing the Draculas.

I wouldn't go that far. Contra may be feeling a little tired and long in the tooth, but so is Metal Slug. If Playmore can keep pumping out all-too-similar Metal Slugs, then why shouldn't Konami keep creating new Contras? I think they'd probably do more in the long term to push the envelope in the run and gun genre than Playmore would...assuming they made sure the folks developing the new games were talented enough.

  7. So far they've given a new castlevania X 2, a new gradius and an old Contra. We need a new contra, axelay, goeman, rocket knight/sparkster, suikoden, and possibly an attempt at a mgs game. Balance is healthy. Oh and no more kart racers. See? millions of things konami could be working on instead of another castlevania. (although I personally wouldn't mind, it's just castlvania is the only one being milked tomb raider-style. I'm scared.)

The Metal Slugs have all been good. Even 4, the worst in the series, is better than any Contra released since the early 1990s. Konami ruined the Contra name with the PS1 games, and this polygonal BS we get in SS didn't help bring it back.

Are you talking GBA? There already is a new Goemon and a new Suikoden on GBA... Also, Krazy Racers kicks the crap out of Mario Kart, so why would you not want a sequel?

Appaloosa ruined the Contra legacy. Konami of America should be blamed for allowing them to release such travesties under the Contra name, but I wouldn't go as far as blaming Konami of Japan for the mistakes that occurred in the PSX's lifespan. I can't comment on how good Shattered Soldier is, but I've heard it get a *lot* of praise, and, personally, I thought Metal Slug 4 was a major disappointment. It's not a total stinker, but it's nowhere near as good as Metal Slug 3 or the 16-bit Contras. I guess we have differences in opinion.

  10. from spong.com:

Namco and Konami merger blather emerges 15th Jan 2003

Japanese giants to meld? Plus – Exclusive Castlevania.

We have received word that two Japanese companies are expected to announce a merger this week, and our sources suggest that Konami and Namco might be about to hop into bed together.

Though not substantiated in any way, several Japanese publications have hinted that such an announcement might well be on the cards.

Furthermore, Konami is expected to announce two new Castlevania games at a press conference in Japan tomorrow, which might well feature a merger or some other corporate announcement.

We can exclusively reveal that these games will be a new GBA game in the series and a cel-shaded PlayStation 2 release, which, if our sources are correct, will have a 2D gameplay engine.

All very exciting. Stay tuned for updates, hopefully tomorrow.
if true, hooray for a next-gen 2d castlevania! but cel-shading? for castlevania? i really have nothing against the technique, but i just don't see how it would work for a game that is known for its intricate 2d art. wait and see, i guess..

edit: i guess i should make a new thread for this.
