Thread: I die within your reach, or, that last boss is a tough bastard!

  1. the last boss in onimusha 2. i kept getting my ass handed to me so i gave up and sold the game to my friend.
I hail from Greece, the land where men are men and the sheep are running scared.

  2. They only games I can think of I've given up on are RPGS. Lunar for PS1 I stopped playing after 15 hours cause another game came out and I never went back to it. Xenogears got insanely hard for me at one point cause I wasnt leveling up for shit, so I never went back. Final Fantasy 8 I stopped playing right before the final boss just because I couldnt stand playing that crap anymore.

Otherwise for last bosses that I remember whupping my ass would have to go to Shredder in the first TMNT game on the NES. The only way I can remember finishing that game was using donatello for the last level otherwise you were fudged in the ass. As of lately I cant think of any games that I've played with anything to impossible at the end.
Korly-"Everyone here is an asshole, SURPRISE!"

  3. Syphon Filter 2 damnnit, took me forever to get that stupid guy to run into the helicopter blade. But like everyone says, it's the sense of gratification upon watching a final boss melt into defeated pixels.

That sounds almost as retarded as the boss in the first Syphon Filter. The "Mystically Invunerable To Every Weapon Known To Man Except Poison Gas" retard.

I figured out fairly quickly that I could climb on top of the lockers and he couldn't hit me if I crouched against the wall. I then spent the next 45 minutes unloading my entire arsenal into him, completely and totally puzzled as to how many damn headshots and grenade blasts he can take. I even killed myself a couple times to retry when running out of ammo. Needless to say, when I found out it only took a single gas can I was not only pissed as hell at such a horrible way to handle the last fight, but I swore to never touch Syphon Filter or any sequels ever again.

I don't remember exactly how I beat him, I just remember always using Hyper Mode deathblows and I went into the battle with Fei, Maria...and I can't remember the last one but it might've been Citan. I used Maria for the high hit points and Fei for damage. Make sure to have the Speed Shoes on Fei (and anyone else if you've got them, obviously), and there were a few other items that really helped, but it's been too long.

I just didn't feel like dicking with the orbs at the time. My roomie did the same thing and managed to beat him, so I know it wasn't a fluke. Getting Speed Shoes for all three members helps a lot, which I did my second time.
Yah, that's true. Did you ever get any of Fei's third level combos? I still only have his level 2 combo and I think that may be holding me back a bit. For one thing, it prevents him from getting into hyper mode. I don't know if I have the Speed Shoes either...
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

Yeah, I got them all. Usually well before I could use them, which I wasn't too happy about.

Get to it! Fei needs access to the Infinite attack level, You should be doing nothing but Kishin on Deus. If you pump up Fei all the way and he doesn't reach Infinite during a round, cancel it out and start again. Kishin is your best and only hope against a fully-powered Deus.

They are so insanely helpful it's not even funny. Odds are you don't about the Trader Card (and neither did I until a FAQ for my second time through), so you'll be unable to get more then one set of Speed Shoes (I think that's all there are). There's a pair at the Snowfield Hideout (not show if they're there for the rest of the game) in the display cases. On people they work like Speed Up, on Gears they do the same thing but without the fuel loss every turn.

  7. Argh! Now I have to start going back and getting combos and crap. That = annoying. I never even really understood how you got combos. They seemed to just magically pop up, with no real logical connection to what I did in battle. The booklet said something about using different button combinations, but not button combinations you've used already, or something, but that seems really vague, and a bit too reliant upon luck. Care to englighten me on this?
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

  8. Here's how combos work, and how to figure them out:

You're given a set amount of points, and each attack takes up different points. A deathblow will always end with X (3 points, I think) but can begin with anything. So if you have four points available, how many deathblows can you have? One (Triangle, X). But, if you have five points, you can perform Triangle, Triangle, X or Square, X. The trick is to figure out what combinations you can create that will let you end in X depending on how many free points you have.

To get a deathblow, you simply have to keep doing the combination over and over during battle. So if you want Triangle, Square, X, just keep doing that in battle and the progress meter (on the deathblow listing screen) will grow. I believe it doesn't show up until the deathblow is at 50%, but just keep at it and it will rise. I believe the lesser ones rise faster as you get more powerful, but I could be wrong on that. In any case, you can end up with a 100% learned deathblow and still not have it. That means you either aren't a high enough level or don't have the AP. Fei's most powerful Deathblow (which I don't think you need) requires something like level 89, IIRC.

Some of them are gorgeous as hell, I remember Citan's sword in particular to be slick.

[edit] You can get deathblows whenever you have the points, no matter what level you are. My second time through I had four or five deathblows at 100% but unaccessable a few times. The time from six points to seven was irritating to me because I wanted to learn the rest so badly.

  9. Yeah, I've managed to get most of Citans deathblows, but haven't made much progress with Fei. Thing is though, on the Skills menu, it only shows you the buttons for the deathblows that you've learned. So I'm guessing you just have to press random buttons in battle hoping that it'll turn out to be a deathblow? And I don't believe they always end with X either...
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

  10. People deathblows always end in X while Gear deathblows end in various buttons, but Gears can't "learn" new deathblows. Once a person has one it transfers to the Gear as well.
So I'm guessing you just have to press random buttons in battle hoping that it'll turn out to be a deathblow?
All button combinations that end in X are deathblows. So pick a combination and go with it until the character learns it, and move on to another one.
