Thread: Your small pleasures in life?

  1. I have a scar on my left knee from a roller coaster. Man, nothing beats a delapitated wooden coaster for true, fearing for your life antics.

Also, when you play the bass and come up with a killer bassline, you feel awesome. I guess its the same for any instrument.

  2. #42
Ok, no more Pot. Thats cheating. Thats like asking for home remedies for a sickness and you people giving Dr. Meds. I mean pot just goes with out saying.

  3. Wendys and driving with the windows down on a cool summer night, blasting the stero.
"Punch the yeti! Win a free Llama!"

  4. Skee Lo, and his smash hit summer jam "I Wish."
So I forced my hands in my pockets and felt with my thumbs and gallantly handed her my very last piece of gum.

  6. Small pleasures?

Walking to the LACC at E3.

Clear Minnesota skies in the spring and fall, with a soft breeze.

The first snowfall of the year.

Watching parents treat their kids as though the love them.
bastard of the new world order.

  7. Alright, serious answers abound. Here goes my cover, 'cause everyone's about to find out how sunshine, puppy dogs, daisies and water slides I reall am.

    - Waking up in the morning to find my son has climed into my bed and has his forehead pressed against my lips and his arms around my neck; waiting for the customary hug and peck on the forehead that officially starts the day 'round these parts.

    - Seeing him dance around like an Oompa Loompa to "I Am The Walrus."

(yes, I officially have the cutest 20 month old ever. sorry for any of you who hoped your kids would achieve this feat.)

    - Watching him learn new words, and being especially excited when a sentence pops out, ala last night's "That tastes good!" when he had a little bit of Sprite or "I'm-a bite you!" while we were wrestling (I get on my hands and knees, pretending he made me fall when applicable).

    - Hearing him laugh... Which is often.

    - The video for Fiona Apple's cover of "Across the Universe." I usually don't like her, but she does have a beautiful voice that fits the song perfectly, and the video is like watching my life. One of those understated, peaceful smile type moments. Shame I've only seen it three times.

    - Taking a walk by my lonesome; seeing things I grew up around, recounting a lot of memories, etc.

    - Cuddling up on the couch, and having the cuddle-ee eventually fall asleep in my lap while I play with her hair.

    - Those great TNL moments when myself and YAWA, Matt, whoever go off on absolute tangents together. See the GameGO! refugee extravaganza (or whatever it's called) thread for examples.

    - The kiddo prentending he's asleep in my lap, and then looking up at me with the biggest smile ever.

    - Hugs!

    - Writing something, and going back to read it a week, a month or a year or so later. That's when I realize it wasn't as horrible as I initially thought, and recalling what was on my mind at the time I wrote it.

    - Those great conversations with the significant other, close friend or random person I met at the bar that can last anywhere from twenty minutes to six hours.

    - Quiet.

    - A particularly good set of matches in a great fighting game (usually KoF '98, Third Strike or VF4) with an opponant who's either evenly matched or better than me; walking away either better than them, or least with a whole slew of new tactics. One of the few times in gaming when I actually walk away feeling as though I accomplished something.

    - My memories. The good ones, bad ones and the truly bizarre.

    - Threads like this that put the whole thing into perspective.

    - The end.
So I forced my hands in my pockets and felt with my thumbs and gallantly handed her my very last piece of gum.

  8. I would side with Orochi's general views, but my kids (and all that they entail) are my greatest pleasure, as I'm sure Orochi's child is to him.

    So, small pleasure? Easy:

A cigar, a glass of wine, and the stars.
    "Fiends! Animals! Bastards!"

  9. Dang it, Prince, I didn't even think to elaborate on that one. Put that as the elaboration to "Quiet," and we've got ourselves a done post.

Heh, and yeah, he's my greatest joy... But there's so many of those little moments that I couldn't help but list.

Hot damn, I think today just might be a good one.
