yeah, i've said that on these forums like 20 times, but nobody wants to listen.
the guy with the megaphone(if i'm correct) is kenta fukasaku(the original directors son, who also wrote both scripts for this and the previous movie). he knows what he's doin. so this is going to rock.

yo doug, offhand; whats yer fav characters in the original BR(and fav scenes)?

Mitsuko and Kiriyima without a doubt. As for my favorite scenes, those two's showdown was pretty good little action scene. Also, as short as it is, I love the part with the couple who commits suicide, we see them walking up to the cliff, hearing the gunshots, sounds of their classmates killing each other off in the distance. I thought that was done very well.
Another great scene was the lighthouse scene of course. When they all just fall dead simultaneously I was like![]()
What about you what's your fav characters and scenes?
This movie simply cannot come out soon enough
That reminds me, I still need to pick up the original and see it. I'm a little behind.
lighthouse scene(fucking emotional insanity as to how fast everything goes to shit)
kawada vs kiriyama(that was an awesomely directed dramatic and quick battle)
chigusa vs niida(yeah...that bitch after that scene cemented herself for like the next 10 years, which is proven with kill bill and Ju-On)
favorite characters have to be chigusa, kiriyama, and satomi noda(the chick with the glasses in the lighthouse). mitsuko is so overrated with her plodding backstory that never gets flushed out unless you've read the novel...so in her case i'd have to give it a thumbs down as to how they treated her character(nothing more than the "evil bitch persona" were used to in american cinema). but, then again; you dont know that one of the girls in the lighthouse is the mayors daughter unless you read the book, etc.
also...you see the special ed doug? lots of little things were added that helps it out, but a few big scenes were thrown in and mar the pacing to fuck(basketball flashbacks and other crap). but the noteworthy additions have to be the cg blood to the bulletwounds when noda is lit up in the lighthouse. really REALLY well done.
here's a pic of the new cg blood(it's only when she gets shot in that close up scene(around 3-4 seconds), but it's REALLY noticable):

I'm guessing I should really see the first one, correct? Do they sell it in the US anywhere, or would I have to get it off a online deal? Tell me where and I'll buy this one ASAP...I've heard too much about it.
What are these movies about?
treize: you can find region 0(the ones that will play in any dvd player) on ebay no problem.
rumpy: i'll give you a overview about the flick...
after the millenium(2000), in a japan that won the war with germany(ww2), the economy goes to shit. millions are out of jobs and students are revolting against the military and their own teachers/school in general. with the higherups in japans 'parliment' fearing the uprising of the youth(and deeming it unacceptable), they impliment the millenium act(aka the BRact).
the br act is simple: you take an impartial lottery, and whichever class wins gets sent to an undisclosed island where they are forced to kill each other until only one is left. their parents have been notified. each child(we're talkin ages around 14 or so) is given a bag with rations(bread and water), a map+compass, and a 'weapon'(randomly selected).
also, electronic collars have been placed around their necks. it monitors their vital signs and statistics. but there is another reason for them all together...
"danger zones" are updated on the island(the island is seperated into grid sectors and named a1,a2,a3,etc)to keep the children from hiding and keeping the pace of the game going. why? because if in 3 days there is no winner, then everybodies electro-collars explode and it is declared a forfiet in terms of any winners(i.e...everybody dies via explosion in the throat region).
now, your probably asking yourself "wtf? so what makes this a badass movie?". well, it's the way the director jumps from emotion to emotion so damn fast and from my own standpoint, the music and pacing have alot to do with it also. i will try to restrain from spoilers, but when you watch friends become a heated enemies in an enclosed space(and a very short amount of time), or when your watching a girl let loose her utter hatred for a boy from her class(you'll know it when you see it), this movie just runs along full speed and only, ONLY stops to slap you in the mouth(this flick holds NOTHING back whatsoever). and it slaps HARD, and OFTEN.
it was a shocker to me when i first saw it, but i cant ignore the fact that it's one of the best damn movies i've ever seen.
