Thread: Grev's Border Down on DC? (UPDATED: 4/11 video)

  1. www.grev.co.jp/border_down/index.html

Grev has updated the Border Down site with the game story (Japanese, of course), weapon system, and more screenshots.

If those backgrounds are full 3D this game is looking on-par with Ikaruga. Note the dark blue screen shot with flames on the ground. It looks like the boss shown in the original photos except morphed into another form.

  2. Just wondering...

Why does anyone still care if title X comes out for Dreamcast? Maybe I'm being naive but doesn't virtually everyone here own a console more recent than the DC - one that's more powerful, and one that might bring a new release better sales?

I guess I see the Naomi thing, but is the porting process really that big of a deal? I mean, I still love my NES, but I don't want to see new software for it.

  3. Because of the Naomi "thing".

Major DC games still sell better than Xbox titles in Japan and the similarity of Naomi/DC hardware saves money on home developement. *-neo

With Border Down, DC is basically the only system G.Rev could likely afford to port too. I think they'd leave it in the arcade before ivesting in the PS2 for such a niche title.

Also, DC is really import freindly, so that's a big plus.

Yes, and there are so few releases on DC now the whole DC fanbase will be concentrated on the few remaining releases. Hence the good sales.

Edit: Yeow, look at those new screenshots!

  6. I guess I see both your points. Hell, the GC is the only other import friendly machine, and that has a limited market.

Give it time. Freeloader will open doors to that, and GC will be seeing more Japanese softs this year than last. So far about the only good GC titles not to get a US release are Mr. Driller and Doshin, the interest in the import market will grow with more games. *-neo

  8. What I meant was that the GC has a limited shooter market compared to that of the PS2. Is Ikaruga changing that, at all?

    Ah.

Well Ikaruga sold 5,000 copies it's first week (compared to 16,000 on DC). Since GC takes Naomi ports better than PS2 we may still see games like Border Down and Shikigami No Shiro 2 on it.

Remember that of all the PS2 shooters released, half of them were Gnet titles and thus easier for the developer to port to PS2. They weren't exactly ported due to demand but rather because it was economical. *-neo

  10. I still hope it comes to DC. If Playmore puts out the KOF series on DC, it's only fair.

That cityscape in the left screenshot is breathtaking. It looks somewhat like the first stage of Metal Black redone in some well-executed 3D.

It seems that BD has time changes in it... check out the System page, and that cityscape is there again with a blue sky.

Too bad the soundtrack CD is sold through Sega Direct only.

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)
