Thread: The Importance of Music

  1. How many games that are considered all-time classics have bad-mediocre soundtracks?

Music is very important, it helps add to the 'atmoshere' of the game.

  2. Music adds to the feel and mood of a game and/or its situations. Imagine The Magus Battle without the cool score.

    Asteroids!

  4. Trust me Chibi, WotM has a real recorded soundtrack. I can tell the difference between real music and fake MIDI. Ikaruga and SotN, for example, are fake, whereas Medal of Honor and WotM have real recorded soundtracks. Just look at the credits at the end of WotM.

Sure it might be more expensive, but to me it's a question of how you allocate your resources. Do you spend that $250,000 on a quality soundtrack or put it into some other area? I prefer the former.

  5. Well, in that case, good job Sony.

  6. Well I guess its less important to me. I love music but it does not make or break a game for me really. Music in todays games is good I guess, but I still prefer the catchy theme songs from the games of Old. Mega Man 2 and Ninja Gaiden 2 have some of the greatest game music ever.
    Barf! Barf! Barf!

  7. Other than the first THPS, I think all extreme sports games have had soundtracks ranging from tolerable to terrible. Obviouslly I'm not the target audience for these types of games, but I have no desire to liten to the same 12 generic, pop punk/nu-metal songs over and over again. Agressive Inline is the perfect example of this. I loved playing that game, but the soundtrack was so bad that I ended up just playing it with only the sound effects on. Games like Aggressive Inline make me wish that I had a Xbox so I could record my own soundtracks.

As for shooters, I think Mars Matrix has one of my favorite soundtracks. The up-tempo techno beats are a perfect compliment to the game's futuristic graphical style.

  8. Need I remind you all of FF7 aand the final battle?

  9. Great thread, I really don't understand how you can't dig vg music(like those 6 that used the "videogame music sucks so why would I want to?" option on that dl thread), from Journey to silius, Parodius to VO: OT it plays a vital part.

Yea that was good but I must say that my favourite moments are on stage 1, its just so damn epic, the blast off and the boss battle.
But maybe chapter 4 is the best.. hah I can't even choose, its that damn good

Stage 2 has a really good tune, one that I can listen to over and over outside of the game. I try not to listen too much to vg music when I'm not playing it, I'm afraid that I will get tired of it and that maybe the game will lose some of its appeal.

Please don't. Even if it was a good tune, I don't see how anyone could get into it given the game's craptacular midi.
