Thread: Japanese Tired of Video Games? GREAT Discussion...

  1. I sold most all of my games, I never played them. Basically - I like them well enough, but I don't get around to playing them much. Steel Battalion was cool because of the controler and the suposed realisim, Panzer Dragoon Orta is the most recent game I've been enjoying but after that, Quake 3 and maybe one other game is all I ever play. I don't buy too many these days. In fact - $50 is more than I want to spend for something I'm not going to use that often.

  2. Well, not to go up against an analyst who does this for a living or anything, but to have left out a couple of key glaring facts about the industry in Japan wasn't cool.

For one, Japan's been in an economic crisis for, what, 5 years now?

Second, a poll of a salary man, a college age guy who works 12 hours a day, and citing an industry poll of people 12 years and under, who are way under the average age of gamers in Japan as elsewhere isn't the best sampling.

Third, during the economic slump, Japanese developers and publishers have lost a huge amount of market share to the US developers and publishers. American consumers no longer have to depend on translations of Japanese games for their gaming needs. So Japanese companies have suffered on their bottom lines.

Fourth, the videogame industry in Japan is still one of the biggest industries in the country.

  3. I find that now that I can readily obtain games, pretty much whenever I want, gaming isn't as "special" as it was when I was a kid. It would be a joyous day indeed when my parents would buy me a system or a game, and I'd just play it to death. I remember spending the whole winter of '96 with Mario 64, getting all 120 stars and all the secrets and stuff, and since that was the only game I had I treasured it alot more and didn't take it for granted. Same thing happened with Ocarina of Time.

But now, I see a game that I want and most of the time I buy it. Like I said, it just takes away that "special" feeling that a game gives you. Don't get me wrong though. I still love games today, and thoroughly enjoy most of the ones that I sit down with. It's just different, and I don't think anything can really change that.

I made a thread about all this gaming when you're younger and gaming when you're older stuff awhile back that expressed my thoughts on the matter pretty well.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

  4. I've been burned out a couple of times, last time gaming started to suck I sold a bunch of consoles and games and started to trim the collection and by that giving some titles the attention they need to be entertaining.
I can't continue to play 5 games at the same time these days. Thats just it for me, and of course there is nothing like having a AAA title released every now and then, which 2002 had.

I want a good 3 or 4 a year, that's it. I want to play a game for 1-3 months on and off.

I'm very casual in my gaming now, the pro/con of being 30, I guess.
I'm only 21.. but i'm with Matt.. I'm very casual gamer now.. only buying games that are 20 dollers or less.. and only buying a game maybe every 3-4 months ...

Video games only give me temporary enterinment.. and then i play for a couple of hours.. and then begin to collect dust.. games.. dont give me that long enjoyment i had as a child..

  6. What I have to ask is, what's the big deal? Gaming is not some all-encompassing life force that a certain few find and must hold onto, its a hobby.

I loved games with all my heart when I was a kid. I kept playing them religiously through high school. In Summer of 2001 I hopped on the GG! craze and bought around 50 games.

Then I stopped. Now, even when I say I play a game a lot, its only in short spurts. Quite frankly, I have found gaming to be a wholly unfulfilling hobby and quite useless to me. I like posting here because I like the people here and there is some funny stuff, but I think its obvious I dont have much worthwhile to say gamewise. Thats just the way it goes I guess.

  7. I also have to agree.. i also belive that the board is like that.. just look at the topics.. most of them are about.. games from the past.. or threads.. about how they should bring back.. xxx serries.. or make games like they use to...

  8. It's sad to see that many people who post here aren't into games anymore. Kinda puts a damper on things.
Well that's like, your opinion, man.

  9. Oh well...
