Thread: DoDonPachi dai-ou-jou [PS2]

  1. I kinda miss the butt rock soundtrack. It was tops. The accordian on the first level is great, though.

That damn flyer in the box advertising the cell phone version of ESP.RA.DE got me all wet. I thought it was for a console port. Boo, Cave. Boo you for tricking us weakminded folks who can't read Japanese. Or look closely at pictures. Boo.

There's a lot of bullets in this game. Yep. And it's easier to rack up huge chains - I've broken 200 many times. Not as much of a remix as I'd expected. Only two ships, though...I thought there were more?

Death Label is frightening. I lasted all of 2 seconds in it. I was so ascared I immediately turned off my PS2. I don't think I will be playing it again.

  2. 2 ships and 3 ways to change them around...

I prefer the B ship with the purple chick as the pilot.
    Boo, Hiss.

  3. I am so tempted to just go out to Network Video and pick this up....hmm.

  4. Is the replay disc a DVD, or a sort of PS2 style game that loads and then you can watch it? If it's a DVD, are DVD players region specific? I know almost nothing about DVD players, I don't even have one yet, besides the PS2 and Xbox

  5. The replay disk is an actual DVD. It is region specific (Region 2); however, there are numerous ways to either make your DVD player region-free, or just buy one that already is...

Rummy: Does your replay disk skip during the replay option?

As far as Death Label goes, I think it's a really neat thing to have on the disk. Of course it's hard as all hell, but it's quite fun at the same time. I actually managed to get to the third level before I was utterly crushed.

In the intro to the replay disk, you get a bunch of stills of the games spliced in with replay footage and text. Text like "You will never reach the end", Many players found this game frustrating", and the real cheer-up of "You'll continue only to make the same mistake again." It's so mean it's funny.

Why not just have a voice that laughs and makes jokes about your family while you play?
    Boo, Hiss.

  6. DVD didn't skip at all when I played it in my PS2. Only watched the replay of the first stage, though. It almost made me weep. I will never be that good. I loved the little text bits during the opening.

I really, really hate how your score doesn't stay on screen when you die.

I've also been using the purple girl, but with ship A. I know all the differences between the girls now, but the ships...I'm too lazy to try them both. Too much effort to press right and then circle, y'know?

There aren't enough x's for how much this game roxxx.

  7. The reason I don't get very good scores is that I can't chain for dick. The only time I get a high chain is when I've got a hyper locked onto a boss. Other than that, I'm lucky if I can break 300...

I was also informed by a friend that "You gotta' do what?"

    You gotta' BELIEVE!
    Boo, Hiss.

  8. The graphics are so nice- very colorful, smooth, and detailed. The videos online don't do the game justice.

I'm very surprised with the slowdown. I don't know if it was on the pcb or not, but I was able to get through so many tough areas because it slowed down frequently. It was helpful in the sense I would have died 100 times more, but after a certain point enough is enough. I did not notice any slowdown whatsoever on the bosses.

Other than that, the level design and bosses are of a level only cave can acheive.
    steam: Mrs Esterhouse

  9. Is there a "wait off" option? I'd be really surprised if there wasn't. That should fix the slowdown.

  10. It doesn't look like there is a wait option. Slowdown gets crazy on the later levels.
